So my baby got through its MOT with the advisory of pitted disks. It isn't an essential job but as I haven't treated it to any new parts for a while I thought I'd look into putting some new one on. Any recommendations for fast road/occasional slow track use on a budget?

Check MX5parts, They're doing a special on discs, pads and fitting if your near. smile
I've run pattern discs and EBC green/ yellow stuff pads on a few cars. Fairly cheap and a nice bite.

If you want you can fit 1.8 discs/pads. You can use the same calipers but you need new carriers and the front calpiers need to be swapped over (left <-> right).

Autolink do the full kit http://www.autolinkmx5.com/big-brake-conversion-wi... all you need is some pads (EBC greenstuff pads are often recommended on MX5s).

Good god no, not Greenstuff. Standard Mazda pads are much better. Greenstuff have the potential to be good but the quality is just too variable. I used them in the past but some crumbled, others came away from the backing plate and the last set were so hard they ate the disks while hardly wearing at all. I'm never going near them again.
Standard pads on cheap pattern plain discs. If you want better braking then upgrade the pads to Axxis ULT (if you an find them) or Stoptech Street pads. Yellowstuff are ok but not so great on the road.

Erk that doesn't sound good - under spirited road usage they ran fine for me. I run red stuff pads on my Celica with no issues, they need a bit of warming up to get the best out of them but even when cold they were noticeably better than the OEM pads.
