S430 to replace my XJR.

While looking for a suitable replacement for my 2001 XJR I've stumbled across some S class's of a similar vintage.

It looks like a whole lot of car for the dough, albeit not quite as quick as the XJ but S500s are a bit think on the ground and I think I can live with that as I don't use it to its full potential most of the time.

So who's going to tell me the bad points and what to look out for?

The S class of that vintage is very prone to rust and I can't imagine one, and certainly not a S430, to be a decent replacement of an XJR.

In what respect? Performance?

How would an S500 square up then?
