Hopefully if you opened this thread you will be able to answer my question . After the immobiliser has kicked in with the alarm off (30 odd secs) is the only way you can turn the immobiliser off again done by having to switch the alarm on then off causing the doors to lock/unlock?

The hand book says you should just press the fob button to deactivate the immobiliser, but does not mention if they are in fact saying you have to lock/unlock the doors. On the Cerb you can just press the fob to de activate the Immobiliser without the door lock/unlock carry on bit.

Also while I'm on the subject. The manual says left fob button for chirps & right fob button for no chirps on arm/disarm. For me it's just indicator flashes with either left/right button. is the chirp function something that can be enabled?

Cheers!

Sounds like your imobiliser is not a META. My doors were unlocking then locking before I could open the driver's door. I reset mine by disengaging the main battery and then reconnecting. Easy on mine with a battery cut off switch. Problem arose with my META because my passenger did not close his door firmly when I locked up. Imobilisers can be quirky.

I think on the original set up it was down to the time the fob button was held. Quick press and Immobiliser off, longer hold and the doors lock and alarm set etc.
Well that's how mine works.

With the alarm off and immobiliser on I've tried just pressing the fob button quickly but nothing happens untill I press it long enough and the alarm turns on and the doors lock.

So is it true to say you should be able to de-activate the immobiliser when the alarm is off withought having to turn the alarm on then off again?

If it's the original Meta you are correct - quick press and you should be able to start the engine. However, if it has been replaced by a Meta 2 this function will not work, and you have no choice but to arm and disarm the alarm. Or so Carl Baker told me after replacing mine...

Sounds about right. Can you tell which Meta you have by the fob shape ? Mine is basically oblong looking with rounded faces, two buttons & red LED on the top RHS

Apologies for jumping in Shoggy, but may I ask a daft question?!

If you lock and arm the alarm with the roof off, do you open yourself up (no pun intended) to false alarms? Being a new owner I am not sure how the sensors work.

According to the Meta instructions partial arming (roof off) is achieved by pressing the fob button for up to 4 seconds causing the hazard flashers to activate 3 times. This causes the internal movement sensors not to work. Never tried it but that's what the maker's instructions say.

I have a Foxgaurd alarm, if in the car with both doors shut to just deactivate the immobiliser you need to turn the ignition switch to the second position then press the remote fob button. If a door is open then the immobiliser will deactivate by just pressing the remote fob button.

Worth noting here that many insurance companies will treat a car with the roof down/off as uninsured TVR or otherwise.

Checked when taking out insurance with A-Plan and roof down is no problem for them.

Parked up my 94 Griff 500 on 31 March up the country. When I returned 22 April battery flat. Think I had left radio on at min volume, but not alarmed as was garaged. As soon as I got some charge into battery alarm went off. Doors are not locked and wern't originally. When I turn key alarm goes off. Have tried disconnecting and reconnecting battery but no change. Alarm fob is Gemini with just 1 button. Have also tried short and long press on fob button but no change.
Am I missing something obvious here?
Any suggestions welcome.

Hi there, firstly, have you locked the doors with fob, left it a few minutes then opened again? Try this, may reset alarm. Secondly, does the little red LED on top of steering column go out when key inserted (I assume you have the older setup like mine with a separate immoboliser deactivator block on key ring)? If not there is an immobiliser issue. Regards, Pete

PeteGriff. Thanks for that. Unable to lock doors with fob. Will check out red LED as suggested.
Just have the 2 Gemini fobs, both identical, to operate central locking and alarm. 1 button on each.
Will advise further. Broadband access some 5 miles from car location, hence delay. Cheers

Not quite sure how I managed it but disconnected battery again, removed and refitted relays
+ some fuses (all ok), reconnected battery and hey presto all in order.
Obviously something not quite kosher but should be ok, til the next time!

Hi CD, could be bad connection somewhere (I had that), or needed reseting. Note that if a door is not quite shut or the door switches make poor contact, the alarm will not set and doors will not lock. Seems more alarm than immobiliser. All the best, Pete
