I have seen a couple of pictures of wedges without external boot hinges. The smooth rear deck without external hinges looks better IMHO.
Has anyone on here modified their car to have internal hinges ??
If so, which hinges did you use and how are they mounted ??
Does anyone have any pictures showing them from underneath/inside the boot that they could post.

Thanks in advance.

Dave.

The hinges on the 400SE's etc came from the factory like this, not sure about anyone doing this as their own modification

Rob,

I should have explained better.......I want to know what car/vehicle the internal boot hinges are from.
Much obliged for any info on them or how they are fitted as I would like to change my 390se from external to internal hinges.

If my memory serves me correct, on the 400 type concealed hinges TVR used a very special hinge smile

Basically think along the lines of the bonnet by using a 10mm bolt bolted through a hole in the boot lid and onto a captive nut in the body

Simples eh :0

Not sure the earlier could be adapted that easily but sure someone has probably done so.

The boot lid on the 400se with the concealed hinges is different to the earlier cars. The leading edge of the lid is moulded with radiused angle so that it clears the body as it opens.

...and there's me who also wanted to carry out this mod for the 'shaved' look. I don't like external hinges.

Sounds like a little too much work.

Thanks for the replies guys.
Sounds as though it could be a bit more awkward than I first thought.
I'll keep on having a look into how it could be modified though.
Thanks.

Dave.

My car has an attempt at hidden boot hinges, executed by TVR, that predates the 400 style bonnetesque solution. They hang from a metal rail glassed into the shell across the rear deck. Only problem is that you can no longer put the roof panel in the boot horizontally.

Thanks for the link Danny...I thought i would replace the painted black ones on mine with a new pair of chromed beauties..It has been sunny all flipping day and then after snapping a bolt and taking off the boot it pissed down..Hailstones the lot!!..Managed to put it back on but they will need to come off again as the rubber seat underneath them is rotten and i didnt have a spare..So i will be cutting two from a piece of nitrile rubber sheet that i have..The O/S hinge is flopping about like an elephants ball sack...Oh and now the sun decides to come back out...AAArrrggghhh.....banghead

I seem to recall snapping or stripping one bolt/ stud on one of my Imp hinges, so I drilled them all out, re-tapped (or fitted inserts, I forget which) and fitted stainless studs. The hinges are zinc alloy (aka monkey-metal) so won't take much stick.
