Classic Roadster for £2000? Is there one?

Can anyone recommend me a classic roadster for around £2000?

I want something cool for the summer to cruise around in. It doesn't need to have a lot of power but it would be nice.

I was looking getting a MK1 MX5 and thought maybe a classic car will be nicer.

What you guys think?

Midget is a good one. Poss MGB or Spitfire. BMW E30 - have to be a 318 or 320 at that price. TR7?

Just looked on the 'bay. Loads of Midgets, plus golfs, Saab, Alfa, .... all less than £2K A few E30's too.

My TR7V8 convertible passed its MOT on Friday, I was only £86 fully comp, its going up for sale £2500, there are a few for sale, they are great cars but not as popular as midgets MGBs etc

If it were me, I would buy an Mx5....
I've been down the other route and enjoyed it immensly..
However, the Mx5 is the largest volume production sports car of all time... If it didn't work...it wouldn't have happened !!
Parts are easy to come by, low insurance, great owners club, easily modified and a hoot to drive..
Looking at getting one once I've got rid of something else !!

Smart Roadster.

Quite nippy, a touch quirky, gearbox is a bit weird but nowhere near as bad as some say, easy to live with, 55mpg, and like many traditional roadsters not averse to letting a little rain water in the cabin now and then.

MX5 all day long if you want a car that will start every day and be reliable, fairly rot free and needing not too much spanner work.
MGB roadster rubber bumpers are still available around 2K if you are patient. Mechanics are simple, body is all important.
Spitfires are the last of the Triumphs at this price really, not a comfy as the MGB but in my opinion look great.
Good luck in what ever you choose, will sure beat a Mundano or similar!!!

Reliant Scimitar SS1 TI. Looks are an acquired taste but it's 150kg lighter than an MX5 and faster.

The TI had the Nissan engine.. so pretty reliable too ( as was the ford lump)

I think he meant the Smart Roadster gets 55mpg.

I think I'll settled for the MX5. It might not look as cool as the others but knowledge and parts are available easily and that's a good sellng point for me.

I keep telling her I want another TVR or a TR4/6 or a Stag or a REnault GTA or an Excel
She keeps suggesting a Merc SL (or a Nissan Cashcow thing or a Skoda Yeti)
I thought the Merc sports werent very "sporty" to drive.
Whats the rear seating like for a 7 year old?
