Hi all, a friend has the above car and has a problem with the engine "holding back" when he tries to accelerate or kick down.

His garage have told him that the turbo is "over boosting," and needs to be replaced at a cost of £1300!

Does this sound right, as I can't see how it would do this. Is it due to wear on the seals or something?

The other question is, how good are rebuilt turbos nowadays? He lives in Essex and I found a Company called Essex Turbos. Does anyone know if they are a good Company to deal with?

Thanks

Tim

Based on your description, it sounds nothing like overboosting.

Hi, thanks for your reply! Apparently, if he accelerates gently, everything seems fine. It's only if he tries harder acceleration that he has a problem.

I thought that it sounded more like fuel starvation than anything else!

It could be a variable-vane turbo on which the vanes are stuck, so in certain conditions it will over-boost and cause the ECU to put the engine in "limp home" mode.

Get him to talk to Terry at Mid Kent Chrysler 01634819774 he is great on Chrysler stuff & people bring cars down from Brum for him to work on! It is in Chatham so just across the river.

This basically^^^^

Changed quite a few for the same issue, turbo technics can rebuild and now have the kit to test, replace and calibrate the electronic actuators on the turbo. The other issues the 3.0crd get that may cause this problem is the egr valves stick.

Hi, thanks for the reply! Essex Turbos have quoted a price of around 30% of the dealers, with a two- year gtee.

As they are very close to him, I think that he's going to use them. Thanks to all who have taken the time to reply!

Symptoms sound very much that the egr has failed.

Interesting, probably a lot cheaper than a turbo to fix, too!

Thanks

EGR or a sensor would be my thoughts. Needs scanning by someone who knows the engine rather than randomly changing expensive lumps!

It was a Chrysler dealer who originally made the diagnosis.
