A friend of mine has just told me a issue he is having, and I for the life of me cant think why the company in question would do it.
Friend works for a company, has done so for over 10 yrs, lets call them ABC, he gets paid monthly, bank account showing paid by ABC, and his contract shows he works for ABC .
Then, approx 18 months ago he gets a letter, saying instead of saying ABC on his bank account when paid, it will say 123. Other than that, no changes.
Then, sept last year he leaves working for company in question, and has been trying ever since to get his P45.
Last week he asked his accountant to call company ABC and ask for it, cue the wages clerk screaming down the phone saying he never worked for them, saying he worked for a job agency.
Turns out company 123 is a job agency, he still hasnt managed to get his P45 but at least he is on the right track.
So my question is, why have company ABC done this, what advantage is there to them, is it a tax thing, as far as he knew he was still working for company ABC, he had NO new contract of employment with company 123.
Very strange indeed.

whats strange is your friend not questioning it at all.
could be used in case of redundancy, they work for agency and so their contract is not being renewed rather than them being terminated.
did he get sick and holiday pay from agency?
Big boss skimming off a % using his agency?
Looks dodgy either way.

He has the name of company 123, the agency, not sure if im allowed to post it up on here, we cant find out any infomation about company 123 on the web at all.
Ref the boss skimming money off, ive just mentioned that and he says he remembers seeing a letter in the office regarding the boss getting x amount each month, calling it "Payroll kick back".
The plot thickens.
