Wire wheels, RH hub which side of the car?

Ok i think this has been discussed before but i cannot find it on a search, the adapter hubs are marked RH/LH side but is that when sitting in the car or looking at it from the front? I found instructions online tha said the L/H hubs go on the drivers side but then found a diagram on line that showed the opposite? Advice sought from someone that knows the correct answer please.......Martin
Assuming that the wheels have spinners to hold them on I would think that the RH / LH refer to the direction of the thread rather than the side of the car.
Following that logic;
Left hand thread tightens as you turn it to the left so should go on the left of the car, (as sitting in it) so that when you drive it forward if anything went wrong it would naturally tighten the spinner.
Other one goes on the other side.
If they aren't spinners I have no idea why it would make any difference, I have wire wheels and they are universal.
Do you have two spares? (One of each.)

I hope this makes sense: LH usually refers to the Left Hand side of the car. The spinners on the nearside of my car are marked "LEFT (NEAR) SIDE" and have normal clockwise tightening threads. The offside spinners are marked "RIGHT (OFF) SIDE" with anticlockwise threads.
Basically, the threads tighten in the opposite direction of the normal rotation of the wheel.

I would agree that LH and RH are as seen from the driver's seat, not from a tyre fitter's view!
Sounds like a system I had on a Spitfire aeons ago where the wires were an option and there was a splined adapter which bolted on to the fixing bolts for the steels. The wires then mounted onto that and were secured by a large nut.
Sadly 'elf 'n safety intruded even in those days and proper 'ear' spinners had by then (70's) been deemed too dangerous for public roads.

one of these might help you to remember (left-hand / near side)
references are to viewing the car from the rear (looking forward so you see the rear first)
(if in UK) the "near side" is nearest the kerb
if you live in the UK and have a RHD (steering wheel on the right hand side) think of that, the steering wheel is on the right

L/H hubs go on the left side and R/H hubs on the right side, right and left are as you sit in the car facing forwards.
Because the hubs are 'handed' both sides will tighten towards the rear of the car. It is important that you get them the correct way round because they self tighten as the vehicle is driven. If you get it wrong they will constantly work their way loose and provide some 'interesting' handling.
