Took the Ultima for a tune up following some intake changes I made after last year's session.
Very pleased with the results for a bog standard LS7.

Torque is 310 ftlb at 1800 to 460 at 5300 at the wheels.
Another positive is that the power remains constant from 6000 to 7100 rev limit with no drop off.
I think this level of power will suffice for me for a year or two.

That looks impressive. I would like to experience a dyno with my car as part of Ultima ownership. If nothing more than to provide confidence of the figures branded in the pub and to experience the whole event, make it one of those things you do! I also have a stock LS7. The Youtube vids look impressive of Ultimas and similiar cars on dyno, but being very naive have been concerned of any downsides with stress on the car. Any experience shared is much appreciated. If you are running a standard GM ECU then a good engine tuner will be able to release a few more HP for you. If you have an American Speed engine you might wish to confirm the claimed output you paid for.
If your install has any weaknesses then a dyno run will find them. Ideally you will have run the engine in a bit before the session and ironed out any problems like water/oil leaks.
In my case my air box was restricting airflow into the engine at higher revs on the first session. The changes I made have led to considerable improvements i n that area following suggestions received by the tuner.
It will test your fuel system and help to set the pressure of the relief valve.
As you never get chance to hear your engine a full load and revs it will scare the cr*p out of you to start with but a good tuner will not want to see your engine go pop as it is bad for their reputation.
You will never know how good your engine/install is unless you have it tested.

PS Give Mark at LS Power Ltd a call as he sells DynoDynamics dynamometers all over Europe and may be able to recommend someone to help you in France.

A Dyno is actually quite a nice environment for the car. The operator will be both feeling how the car is running and will be monitoring it with instrumentation. The run is smooth without the rough road conditions so there are no shock loadings going through the vehicle. We have a Dyno and as has been said it scares the crap out of owners who have not stood beside a car that's doing 160mph.
Just make sure you don't do this.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJCr32GWkPk

That was some face plant!
Hi Jonny
My first airbox had a half round base into which the pipe heading to the engine sat. It then opened out and had 2 Range Rover 4.6 air filter.
The new box is just that, a box. The pipe heading to the engine sits just off the floor with a nice cone shaped entry into the pipe. The air filters are the same size but are now K&N.
Probably a crap description but really simple design.

and here is mine as an alternative:
I have also seen others with air fed from the side scoops
Pros & cons of each?

BTW If anyone know a company that sells the gold heat reflective foil on a large roll rather than folded please let me know.
You can't get the creases out so not the best look - but very effective.

Thanks for the photos Paul. You can't get the creases out so not the best look - but very effective.

I only know of this place at Nimbusmotorsport: http://www.nimbusmotorsport.com/ProdShop2.asp?id=5...
That was one of the jobs on my list to cover my air box and chassis arms.
Actually I haven't opened up my box yet to check the filter, must do it before the summer. I guess its a K&N filter, can they be cleaned, how often do people check their air filters? I usually clean my Caterham's pipercross air filter once a year and give it a light spray of oil has been recommended. Ult-jim
If they are cutting each sheet from the roll and then rolling it and sending in a tube you will be fine. However, my past purchases (from other companies) have been in plastic packs and folded to fit. Nothing I have found will remove the folds.
I will be giving Nimbus a call tomorrow to order 3 feet off the roll providing they will roll it and send in a tube.
Paul
BTW. Thanks for the contact details.

Looks great, and pretty much what we have done, except ours will stick out the top of the clam slightly due to the manufacturer making a slight hiccup! What kind of power increase did this give? The 'proper' gold foil (there are plenty of crap cheap ones out there) can be bought from IS Motorsport - would highly recommend them. The cheaper stuff they do works a treat.
