when I drive my S3 and make a turn to the left it makes a clicking noise on the back, rightside.on a straight line or turning right it makes no noise! My first thought was the big central nut of the driveshaft, became loose but that's not the case, anyone ideas?

Could be a worn cv joint on driveshaft - check that one of the rubber covers hasn't split and the joint is full of grit. If the rubber cover has split it will probably have spat the thick grey black grease out so should be obvious.

Sounds like the CV joints at either end of the driveshaft. Try gripping the driveshaft in one hand and the joint in the other, and twisting them to feel for any play. Make sure that any play you do feel is in the joint, and not backlash in the diff or something - try to keep the joint still while you twist the shaft. Do that at each end of the drive shaft.

Joints are easy to buy (standard Sierra) and relatively easy to change - the hardest bit can be shifting the 6 torx or allen screws that hold the driveshaft at each end, to the axle and the diff.

thanks for quick reply, the hoses are not worn, there's no grease around the shaft, I will check if there's some play at the shafts

Hi Jan,
Have a look my replies to this topic:
"Halfshafts lengths".

I'm fairly sure it's your CV joints, but do check that the driveshaft capscrews are tight.

Hope this helps,
Glen.

Mine had exactly the same symptoms, it was the Right Hand CV joints that were worn, making the noise when turning left.
But check both sides.
