Startup Problems

Morning Everyone, in the last 3 weeks the car has been getting progressively worse at starting first thing, stupidly lumpy and almost cutting out. There is a strong smell of fuel from exhausts and the car struggles manfully for about a minute and then settles to normal idle. Drove the car for about 3 miles and it did a couple of hesitations and then totally ok. Checked all leads to ignition and plugs, stepper motor cleaned regularly, fuel pump sounds ok. I have my own idea of what could be the issue however I wanted to hear from the experts!!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

I had same thing, cured by replacing plug shrouds / leads and nipping the rotten end of the vacuum advance pipe off and reconnecting. Can't be sure which of these three things actually cured it, might be all three! Oh I also cleaned stepper motor and butterfly valve in plenum.

I'll give this a try next week however my money at this stage is on the coolant temp ecu sensor, it'll all come out in the wash.
