Is it worth adding cooling to the top of the engine via a cutout in the bonnet or adding ductwork from the radiator area?

Has anyone done this? Is it a waste of time?

Take one beautiful car and smack it with the ugly stick until it bleeds... Personal preference and all that, but my goodness that is hideous yuck

Better to ceramic coat or heat wrap the manifolds, that will take a lot of heat out of there.

As above doing something with the Manifolds will reduce under bonnet temps.

That above is not very pleasing to look at to me, I have a dirty great bonnet vent so i can't say to much each to there own hehe . As for coil pack getting killed by heat I guess to a degree but they are classed as consumable parts any way so wont last a life time.

Seems like a lot of work and expensive to save what £50 per pack and extend it's life maybe by how many miles really??

I have ceramic coated my manifolds and have noticed a difference in temps when opening bonnet but as Scotty says it's hard to know if will extend life of any components under there, the coil packs must get very hot though inbetween the V. wish i had took some temp readings before and after !

coils suffer from water from the windscreen rather than heat i think. never seen a coil pack failed through heat that i know of, but plenty have corroded transformers from water ingress.
cool air over the starter might be something to consider if you were wanting a project to divert cold air somewhere ..

i've also considered this, but other than replacing the heatshield blanket which wasn't present on my starter thats all i have done to it.

Couldn't the F1 panel be modified with duct pipes instead of bonnet ? there must be some air pressure under there at speed ? or even scoop on the underside of it dropping lower into airflow. There is a pretty big void in there !

You could move the coil packs to the inner wings which is what some companies recommend,heat wrap the exhaust and fit an electric water pump. I have done the last 2 mentioned above and noticed a huge difference especially after the water pump was fitted. The whole engine stays considerably cooler and runs at a stable temperature whatever the traffic conditions. Best non performance mod I have done on my car.
