Guys, where is the best place to source one of them? We were thinking of getting a FFRR 4.2/5.0 supercharged....but then we love classics. And young I had two 3.9 Classic Vogue SE back in Canada...showed it to my wife and that's what she wants now.

It will be run as a daily in London mostly but also on our surf trips: hence we need a 4.2 LSE classic soft dash...can't find anything with less than with 100kmiles on it. Happy to pay up to 15k£ for a good truck with good history.

They tend to be advertised on ebay occasionally. Other than that keep an eye on car and classic and the classifieds here.

There weren't a lot of Soft Dash LSE's built so finding one with low miles might be hard.

Here's one but it's a high miler;

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C320942

It's in a great colour though!

Plenty more on there smile

Worth bearing in mind that these are just as prone to rust as their smaller brothers. Just because it has low miles doesn't mean it has low rush, with that budget you should be able to get something rather nice.

Happy hunting.

Just keep looking. If you want to spend that sort of money you need a good one so either buy a soft dash and get it restored, know exactly what to look for and go yourself or buy from a good dealer and pay the premium. Graeme Hunt and Bramleys have the best but you will pay for it and it could easily be way over your target amount.
There aren't that many soft dash cars - not sure why a surf trip dictates one? They are nice though but I'd buy the best car you can not be bothered buy the spec. 100k is tiny these days - these cars are 20 years old now. Usual discussion about low mileage garage queens and higher mileage used cars. Your money, your choice.
Where - PH classifieds, ebay, LR forums and clubs

I love mine but it is by far the worst put together car I've had. Unless you have evidence there is no rust there will be. I'd be more inclined to buy one at 2k and spend the other 13 tidying it properly. It won't be showroom new but it will be thoroughly overhauled and good to go.

My target is actually under 20k£....15 for the purchase and 5 for putting her up back to as new.
I saw the moss green one...just worried about the 200kmiles engine: that's a lot even for such big engine I would think.

Surf trip: i.e. must be able to do 500 miles trip without breaking down.
Soft dash: airbag and slightly more modern and better inside feel than the old hard plastic ones - also last of the line.
LSE: Baby's push buggy and surfboards and nice air suspension (when in good order)

I'll tell you later - mine is on 198000!

This doesn't look too bad
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-RANGEROVER-CLASSIC-...

and you could refurb it or this looks about the best on the pics. It is a hard dash I think

Yep saw DD one...very nice, perfect color...but wife isn't too keen on hard dash. Bit indeed a very very good option.
I guess I need to wait...

198kmiles wow I'm impressed: are you still running it as a daily?
I will easily put 10kmiles per year on it...hence my question regarding the engine and the Dire Straight car (love it's color combo)

With the price of the moss green one you could always fit a new engine smile

They should all be capable of doing 500+ miles trips easily if maintained correctly, much like anything else. I'm taking mine for a 4000 mile trip around Europe this summer.

It wasn't just the LSE that had air suspension, most post 93 cars had EAS. I prefer the being inside a hard dash but I can see the appeal of the soft dash too having driven a few over the years.

More through the winter but it goes out every week. Runs on lpg last 60k which makes it slightly more bearable! It will go to work tomorrow and it pulled a few dead hedging plants out last week - beats digging them out. Mot next week and I'd dearly like to restore it completely.

The Moss green one that used to belong to dire straits had a full engine rebuild at 125000 miles - it runs on LPG and has had a fortune spent on bringing it up to spec.

It has a pile of paperwork a foot high and is as good as anything else out there.

How do I know this?

It was up at Brooklands Auctions last year and I viewed it with my uncle the day before - however as ever with these things we spotted a CSK and he bought that instead.

However the Mosswood car is very beautiful and worth every penny of Ten Grand.

vjj, which CSK did he buy?

I've seen the mosswood one advertised before and must admit I've been tempted myself!

Can't remember the number but it was a nice car - bought privately - not from Brooklands - he paid 18 grand for it - mechanically perfect with a fresh 4.6 engine but requiring minor TLC to the paint.

he has taken it to his place in France - I will investigate further

I think I'm right in saying that the extra length is all in the middle so the boot is no larger.

I agree with that statement: all in the mid section, but still makes easier access

I will investigate the moss green one

Cool, your stated reason made it look like you believed the boot was bigger. thumbup

Not keen at all on LPG - it takes space, and frankly I'm not bothered with the fuel bill: I don't do enough mileage to justify it.

Can the system be removed easily? Will it impair the engine?

If I remember rightly the tanks are under the floor so they don't take up space at all.

Any competent mechanic can remove an LPG system in about half a day.

If you are serious about getting one you would be daft not to at least go and see/drive it, even if it is just to give you a comparison with others.

I believe if you see it you will buy it.

It is truly lovely.

it's on the least of to be seen...along with another 2 others.
LPG: under the floor, but still taking boot space i would imagine? Also doesnt the engine looses a little power while running on LPG?

That one has the spare wheel replaced with a toroidal tank and underfloor ones where the old petrol tank was. A 35 l petrol tank is fitted next to the petrol filler.
I have the same system (well the underslung tanks) and you wouldn't know its there. I doubt you would see the toroidal either as it has a cover.
If you were to take it out you would need a new petrol tank. Its about a £2500 conversion so would be a shame to remove. It isn't going to be "fast" whatever you do - certainly in comparison with what you are used to so I wouldn't worry about a minor loss of power.
