Possible virus?

I have an annoying ad appearing on the right hand side saying "Related Searches", occasional bogus looking pages opening themselves asking me to complete a "questionnaire about Pistonheads", and some terms in the texts of posts being double underlined in red.

Using Chrome

Anyone know what this is? And how to get rid?

It sounds like you might have a virus on your computer.

Ok I uninstalled a few things, and it's gone now. I think it was a program called Yontoo.

I am getting banner ads with a red flashing border at the top of the page telling me my flash software is out of date and to click to update.

Looks horrendously like a virus to me...

PH technical staff: are these ads kosher?

I'd say probably not.

Maybe a coincidence but the antivirus on this machine flagged up a trojan shortly after I logged on to PH. Trojan:Win32/Sirefef.AN

It was MSE that spotted it.

I ran avg and malwarebytes and nothing came up, so it seems no harm was done (but of course i was not so dumb as to actually click on the banner)

I didn't click on anything either.

I kept getting a message that Flash needed updating, then MSE began reporting a virus. Now sorted I believe. I had only just started that machine up and gone straight to PH where I logged on. Not sure what was going on.

Oops, sorry, I hope you didn't think I was suggesting that you had clicked on the banner. Not my intention at all, so my apologies for any offence...
