Heat it up in the oven and pull.

Don't forget to clean it in the dishwasher!

stick the trumpet base in the oven at 200 degrees (whilst wife is otherwise engaged) and after about 20 minutes, grab base in oven glove and wiggle the trumpets out easy peasy!

I did this job on my 400 last weekend.

I used a small blow torch to heat each trumpet as I went along. Give the joint a 1 minute blast to soften the old epoxy. Wear leather gloves, hold the trumpet assembly and tal the trumpet you've just heated in the four cardinal directions until it loosens, then waggle backwards and forwards by hand while pulling. Once you've done one and have the knack the rest are easy. Should take about 20 mins. Once removed, I used a Dremel to remove the old epoxy to get the sockets ready to receive the new trumpets.

Very satisfying little job!

Good luck

How many of the posters have removed both std & 500 trumpets? I can tell you as much IME the std ones are p-easy compared to the 500 'tubes'.

Tube in vice & drift the base off with hammer & wood after a good torching is the best method I have found. No idea how to do it if you wish to refit the trumpets though wink

I am free from 3rd May.
I might knock up a few blended bases to make a few quid while i am jobhunting.
Can do other stuff such as porting inlets. Anything to keep busy

Just as a matter of interest why do you want to remove your trumpets anyway?

Cos I've decided to shorten the slightly. Which brings me to the question, how much to shorten them by? I was going to go 20mm.

Exactly 500's are already shorter, OP may be following 'common mods' applicable to the std LR trumpets?

It's not that simple - they need to be matched to the distance for the centre of the plenum etc.
Talk to Rob at V8 Developments if you are trying to improve performance. He will tell you all about matching inlet porting to trumpets to plenum size. He's done mine and it's rather good.....

spin In that case, I'll leave them! I just read that shortening the trumpets improves performance and moves the torque up the rev range. I've also read that blending the trumpet base with no trumpets can reduce power...
