Good Value £1k Carbon Framesets

A mate of mine has had the misfortune to suffer from a cracked seat tube on a <6 month old mainstream Italian CF bike. In anticipation of the dealer shrugging his shoulders, I wanted to ask the collective wisdom of pedal powered where they'd look for a high quality, brand new (though not necessarily 2013) carbon frameset?

The bike wasn't crashed, so everything should be transferable over, bar perhaps the bottom bracket. Let's set the budget at the £800-£1200 level shall we.

Where to look? Any hot deals?

I'm in the same position although my frame didn't crack, just not up to much.

I'm leaning towards a Canyon Ultimate CF for £900 with the racing license discount. I did look at getting a reduced Giant TCR Adv 3 (£1350) and stripping the parts but something about the Giant just doesn't do it for me despite it's good reviews.

At £1200 an Argon 18 Gallium from Primera looks good.

Yep agree that the Canyon CF looks good (I have the SLX on order ), but there's at least a months wait... Not ideal when the weather's nice and you just want to get out and ride, so to add to the requirements, available within a couple of weeks.

Frankly at <6 months old, I'd be quoting the sale of goods act at them i.e. : "must be of merchantable quality and fit for it's purpose". Ideally in the middle of the shop on a busy sat

Second to that, if it's just a cracked seat tube have you thought about getting it repaired? Contrary to what some folks would have you believe, carbon isn't magic, and is very repairable..

Oh, and if you do go new frame, try to make sure the BB is compatible with the crankset..

Westbrook Cycles have a range of Scott Foil framesets for (...slightly over budget but so worth it) £1399. About half price & a pro-tour level frameset.

They are a thing of beauty.

I would recommend a Dolan (if a Dolan is good enough for Sir Chris Hoy......)

You can buy an Ares SL frameset within your budget (£950). This is also a pro peleton frameset, having been raced last year by the Sean Kelly An Post team.

Alternatively the Tuono frameset, which is reviewed very favourably in the issue of Cycling Plus about to come out is £800.

Brilliant - thanks for all the suggestions chaps. An engineer is looking at the bike in question on Monday, but they've already suggested that it must be his fault, which is nice of them!

Erm, that actually. I believe that within that timeframe the burden of proof is on the retailer to prove it wasn't faulty at point of sale (i.e. has failed due to misuse) rather than you to prove it is. So unless you've videotaped yourself copying martyn ashton or it's covered in mud...

Dolan Ares is a pro level frame as used by Am Post, its hard to get better for the money.

I found this Raleigh for £600 which is an SP Team Issue Frameset rather than a replica, if a 55cm fits, its a bargain. The factory team have had some strong results on this frameset on the National circuit for a while. £600!!!!

Condor Squadra, £900, Deda carbon, Condor are beautifully finished and really do look the part. Deda carbon has a good rep too.

If it were me, I'd get the Raleigh knowing I could almost certainly fit on a 55cm frame and the money saved would go towards some 50mm Dura ace carbon clinchers! Then I'd go for the Dolan, Canyon and Krypton...

The problem is anyone can write this sort of thing because they don't like the badge and it doesn't sound Italian enough to be a credible race bike but honestly jimbo, you know enough to know this is nonsense.
