VMax technique
Discussion
Last time I was there (in the CSL) we were starting from a parallel runway and turning 180 degrees onto the straight. I used the technique slow in, wide apex and flat out on the exit. Once the car was fully straight you are already some 200 or 300 yrds up the runway.
When I left for the day, I did a standing start from the bottom of the runway (where the ratburger stand was) and acheived exactly the same top speed (164mph) as my best previous.
Now my thinking is, the CSL is an absolutely awesome cornerer (proper word?) and was probably the second fastest car onto the straight, but it was not the most accelerative. The benefit of entering the straight with a run and sacrificing 250 or so yards is neglible. But a less able cornerer (that word again!) but with bags of acceleration may well do better from a standing start at the bottom of the run, and forgo the 'run' onto the straight. I reckon that would acheive a better top speed than the way we did it last time. What are everyone's thoughts?

As you have seen, entry speed into the corner is not really worth a lot. My best speed so far is 170 (doing approx 90mph exiting the bottom bend). From a rolling 40mph start well into the runway I've hit 166..
IT really comes down to aerodynamics, and sheer grunt. Weight hasn't got much to do with it either.
Sooo time to get those wingmirrors / windscreen wipers etc off. Oh and give the car a wax before you go. Doesn't really help much with speed, but makes it look good in the lineup!

Mr Tony is correct, speed into the corner makes marginal difference just a lot more fun and looks good.
For the sheer fun of it, get Joust to take you around the bottom bend in the noble (I'd suggest before lunch!), its an awesome experience. Also hitting the straight with all four wheels of the diablo sliding is pant sh1tting material. Apologies for the profanity, no other way to describe it!

unfortunately this was sideways at about 120mph and sadly, despite my best effort, spun the car three times, narrowly missing Kevins 360CS which was bearing down rather quickly...

I love that corner! Getting the arse out on the Jag can only be done safely on corners like that. I'm sure many VMAX'ers would agree that it's probably the only corner you ever enter a high speed and don't give a monkey if you spin
...unless you're side-by-side with a 6-figure sportscar!
