Hi, does anyone know whether this is possible or a common conversion please? Cheers Jon

As in the 1.8 from the Mk3 MR2 spyder?

Not sure why you would want this conversion but anything is possible with enough money biggrin

I don't think its a straight forward swap though, probably easier to drop the 3VZ-FE V6 in there.

Contact Paul at woodsport I'm sure he will let you know smile

Does it not have more power and have a 6 speed as well?

No it doesn't, and the 6 speed box was only on the later facelift Mk3.
1ZZ-FE
3S-GE
It would be a pointless exercise. Far easier to drop in a 3VZ-FE or 1MZ-FE.
While you're at it fit a MK2 turbo box. Stronger drive shafts + an LSD as standard.

Thank you for that, one of those engines is out of the lexus isn't it? What does the other one normally reside in please? Good tip about mr2 gearbox, I have to change driveshafts as well if I use turbo box, right?

I think you are referring to the 189bhp 2ZZ-GE engine? This would be the only engine (coupled to a close range 6-speed) worth even considering, and even then, its still pretty pointless from a performance perspective unless you really need to get the car under 1,000kg and are scraed of torque... A 3S-GE VVTi (BEAMS) engine would be much better and more powerful if you want a NA 4-cyl with more power.

And yes, the NA and Turbo gearboxes use different driveshafts. There are different Turbo gearbox (E153) driveshafts also, dependant on LSD or non-LSD type.

Why not the obvious choice - a 3SGTE? Absolutely cracking engine!

Because forced induction is not everyone's cup of tea. I have a 300+ bhp turbo and last month I spent a week whizzing round the Highlands in close formation with (amongst others) a Mk2 with a 3VZ-FE conversion (by Rogue Motorsport). There were very few places where I could seriously outpace him.

For a road car it's all about torque. The V6 has it in spades and from low revs as well.

And then there is that great sound track... smile - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_PkswoXMx0
