Which hotel did Orwell work at in Paris? I'm pretty sure that part of the book is based on a hotel job he really had. I did read somewhere it was the Hotel Lotti, and somewhere else that nobody knew which it was.

Anyone know?

(not sure whether want to stay at it or avoid it)

Have a copy in front of me.

Hotel des Trois Moineaux. Looks like is was situated on the Rue Du Coq d'Or.

Good book, I really enjoyed it. smile

I remember staying in the Hotel Chelsea in NYC owing to its history and previous guests. Must admit, it had character and atmosphere but it was rather expensive for what it was. The first room was grey and the heating didn't work. After a complaint we were swapped to a much nicer room and the stay was for more pleasant. Not sure if I'd recommend it to others given the cost. The reality doesn't often live up to the perception/fantasy.

That was the hotel he lived in. What I was curious about was the one he refers to as the 'Hotel "X"', near the Place De le Concorde and where he worked in the kitchens.

Sorry, had just come off a night shift this morning and didn't read the Q properly. You are absolutely right (and I'm a tt). Apologies. smash

I think nobody knows for sure. I read somewhere that his wife had identified it.

Also remember an article some years back on Bbc where somebody had gone back to Paris and London to see what had changed. The life of a plongeur seemed remarkably similar.
