Just a thought, but has any one tried to fit a larger throttle body to a 964?, did it to my old TVR and got a marked increase in power

Standard 964 should kick out 250-260bhp in standard form assuming all parts are healthy. Easy to release bhp lurking inside. The induction system is a good starting point. The cynical amongst us think Porsche strangled the engine because it then made it easer for them once the 993 came along requiring extra bhp. The 964 engine is very strong. Basic unit went on in modified form to obscene bhp levels. For modest financial outlay you can get quite a noticeable increase in performance.

Loads of info on various web sites dedicated to the 964. Here's one albeit rather neglected now..

FVD to do kit that increases the body size by 1.5mm IIRC but I doubt on its own this would give more power as I dont think the throttle body is restrictive to start with. Together with other mods such as cams and MAF it could make sense but on a standard motor?
I think the air flow meter is the most restrictive devise but even here replacing this with a MAF the results are generally slightly better response and maybe a few bhp.

Bottom left on that link shows the throttle body which is a part exchange item. There are two different types, one aluminum inlet and one for plastic.
The main pic on that link is a mass air flow replacement for the barn door type air flow meter.

Does anyone have any experience of using the FvD kits - or indeed any others available now?
Had a hot film conversion on my first 964 - but that was over 20years ago now & info on them seems to have dried up....

As I understand there are two different ways to get the MAF working with the 964 motronic. The signal scaling on the MAF is different to the barn door, this can be sorted by either coding a chip in motronic or have the signal pass through a convertor to scale air flow / voltage. An extra 12v feed is needed also. No idea which system works the best tbh, although IIRC FVD use the convertor system.
