I took the wife's MR2 Mk2 (1995) over to Calais shopping today. It has not long had a full service and is normally 100% reliable.
Today, the PAS cut out and the light came on just as I drove off the ferry in Calais. I stopped twice to buy stuff (which should have fixed a relay problem I've read about on the MR2OC forum) but it remained 'off' all the way back to Calais some hours later. The moment the key was turned when the ferry arrived back in Dover the PAS was working again! Weird.
If it was just me I wouldn't worry much but my wife has a weak left arm at the moment so I've booked it in to our local Inchcape garage.
Any ideas, guys?

It's likely the relay sticking. Flick the ignition switch between fully off and accessory on (don't start the car) repeatedly until you hear the P/S start.

For me it took around 20 switches, and never happened again before the engine broke, 6~ months down the line.
