Is it possible ? I've seen a few people on forums do this, but it looks like quite a bodge in a lot of cases, blown welding holes and a lumpy looking roof that needs a ton of filler to ever have a hope of getting it looking half decent.
Have I just seen a lot of bodge jobs, or can a skilled person do this to a good standard ?

it's not easy to get it right but it can be done properly. you need a lot of patience though. trouble is that the metal is so thin and flimsy, if you don't take your time welding it, it shrinks and warps all over the shop.

As Jimbob said, the metal is so thin and its (usually) a large flat area so will be very prone to distortion, needing a lot of filler. The easiest and often cheapest way to do it properly is just to fit a new non-sunroof roof skin.
