It has to be - the "usual suspect" breakers seem not to want to do business ... asked several whether they had a set of good door panels and that strip that goes under the inside of the rear fold down section ... only one replied saying they had.

OK - not bad going so far ... so replied saying "great - can you send me a few pics to see condition and tell me how much you want for them?"

Nothing ... have "prodded" numerous times now ... still nothing.

GRRRRRR!!!!!

Hi Phil, its because most of the time they are shifting stuff with added TVR tax inc, condition not being questioned no doubt, your obviously in the minority. Pre recession I was quoted 750 + vat for a spare GKN diff by one of the well known breakers ....... fking dreamer.

Well after chasing *FiVE* times a TVR breaker that sounds like he is in the valleys still hasn't given me a price on a couple of door trims, has said he's too busy to take me a couple of photos to see what condition they're in - apparently his assurance of 'if i say they are in good nic thats thats whayt they are' should be good enough for me, and he has taken umbridge at my making him an (admittedly rather small) offer but then again he hasn't given me a price, they're not the right colour so I'll have to recolour them and I doubt that they're a part he moves on frequently...

If I didn't need them I'd be tempted to tell him where to shove them!!!

And that's the point Phil.

Said breaker understands his position of negotiation is stronger than yours.

He knows you'll come back no matter how badly he treats you.

He has the parts, you want them, & you can't find them elsewhere.

In my experience breakers have never been famed for their erudition & customer service skills.

They exist in a world of mud, oil & cash deals, & many operate on the edge (wrong side) of the law.

It's always been like that, and probably always will be.

If you really need the parts, and you really can't find them elsewhere, you may be better off just swallowing your pride & playing the game his way.

Then pay a Gypsy to put a curse on him curse

You can do it all online these days, I've had a lot of success with this one wink

Finally got a price out of him this morning - £40 each for the door trims and £30 for the trim that goes across the boot under the inside of the roof (which seems a tad excessive but hey - I'm bored of farting about) ... plus a tenner carriage.

So £120 all in ... add in the cost of a colour change kit and you're looking at £200 so not too bad as long as they are "in good nic" but that's what the man tells me they are and breakers - like travellers - are a thoroughly honest bunch of course...

Same kind of experience I had with that breaker when looking for a centre console on which to practice my re-colouring technique - I eventually found one on Ebay from a private seller.

If anyone is after a centre section I now have a spare you can have at what it cost me + postage.

Superb - the "good nic" door trims have arrived ... with no backing cards (OK - so I can recover my existing ones), a few holes in the vinyl through to the fabric backing, a couple of broken off mounting bolts and - as they're from a MK2 car - ashtray openings that I'll need to find ashtrays for and a mirror controller that I can't use (yup - I should have checked what year car they were from but I didn't realise they were different).

The rear trim has a few splits in the vinyl on the edges that are going to be impossible to glue effectively.

  • sigh*
At least the rear trim looks to be the right colour (I haven't checked it against the car itself) as do the tops of the door trims ...
