Congrats on finding your perfect land rover, very cool . Bet its great fun. I thought my 205 was spartan but that dashboard is fantastic.

You can't beat an old car that involves the driver in everything thats going on, you don't really "drive" modern cars.

seriously, what an absolutely awesome piece of kit - I learned to drive in a 1969 109" pick-up that my father had bought new a fortnight before I was born and which soldiered on until 1996. It's still in the nettles on the farm and I hold a romantic notion of one day re-chassis-ing it and getting back on the road. I know the smell of which you speak and as I sit here can almost hear the aspirating burble of the inlet-over/side-exhaust straight six. So smooth yet, power-wise, unable to pull a greased stick out of a pig's arse.

These are, along with the classic mini, a must own car for everybody. There is nothing I dont like about them..
Well, perhaps the top speed of 35/40mph and an average of 17 mpg I got from mine

And might i add, dam you sir! I am now missing my old series 3 SWB.. off to ebay i go

Well sticking a TDI in them ups the mpg to 30+, albeit at the expense of a bit more noise.
