Does anyone know where best to source the boot lift struts? My boot opens 3/4 and then stops, have to push it the rest of the way up. Once up it stays, but it would appear the gas struts have lost their gas, as it were!

As an aside, does anyone think this could be done for the bonnet, negating the need for the bonnet stay and allowing a greater opening? You would clearly have to have some sort of safety system so it could not inadvertedly release at 70mph, of course!

The wife's lexus has this but being front-lifting it obviously has the standard finger-lever safety catch, which a Chimaera bonnet does not.

Got mine from here

As for the bonnet, being bigger and less rigid, the bonnet catch not being great, I think it would/might need some additional bracing and maybe additional fixings?

I understand that the Mk 4 Golf strut fits. You'll need to take the old ball joint off and put it onto the new strut. No idea how much they cost...............

Except for the fact that it is 500N and the original Chim one is 250N ... the Golf one tries to rip the Chim bootlid off its hinges! biggrin

Of course if you can find a really knackered Golf one... :hmmm:

Most gas strut ends just unscrew. And you may well find similar struts down the scrap yard. I fixed the tail gate struts on a Ford Explorer this way for the grand sum of £2.
