Tough luck Paul !! the first thing i would check is the fluid level to see if you have lost a significant amount, why? if the level is low it could have leaked on the cluth plate and indicates your problem could have occured with in the last 24 hours, if it`s fine then unfortunatly i think the cluth was probabily "donald" yesterday, small comfort i know but it might make you feel better

Just cos it's a private sale it don't mean you've got no comeback at all. Depends a lot on the wording of the ad.
News to me: buyer beware etc... pray tell?
I'm no legal expert! But if the advert is patently untrue, or if (witnessed) verbal assurances are also inaccurate there may be some come back. Legal wrangling should be avoided at all costs, however, the only winners are inevitably the lawyers!

Am I pi$$ed off? You bet I am! But, in all fairness to the seller, I do believe he never knew the car had/was about to develope a problem. He drove the car on our test drive and drove it hard! He never tried to drive arround this problem. I then took over and drove back. No, I never gave it "Big Johnny Bannanas" It was not my car and I would feel rather silly handing back the keys to a stuffed pride & joy. The car drove fine at normal speeds. It still does.
I could persue this, cause ill feeling and generally give hassle. What would I gain?
Or I could take it on the chin and hopefully enjoy what I believe to be a sorted car. That will just have to wait a couple of weeks.
Now, has anyone else got any stories to tell?
