Do any of the experts that trawl this web site know if a set of 944 17inch wheels fit a 964, I'm keen to match the existing off set and tyre width etc.

Thanks in advance.

Unless I'm mistaken there was never a 944 supplied with 17" wheels.

Ask for Simon, he knows wheels and offsets inside out.

Hmmmmm. scratchchin

Many years ago I sold a set of 17" split rims that came on my 964. (Couldn't tell you if they were OE or not. I do remember that the (especially the fronts) tyres were wider than OE Cup 17s.
The fella that bought them was in desperate straights as he was off on holiday abroad in his 944 and some lowlife had gone around his village slashing car tyres.
Part of the deal was I delivered them. When I got there the 944 was on jacks ready for the wheels.
Anyway, he bought them over the phone blind and paid via paypal. He was confident they would fit, and indeed he'd got two on the front before I left.
Never saw them actually on the road ... but everything seemed ok on the jacks.

So role reversal?

Not sure about that

Early 944's had offsets in the region of 13-20 I think - pre abs. Similar to 3.2 Carrera and before so you can use Fuchs and other deep dish wheels

Later 944's (most of them) had 52.3 offset wheels similar to 964. Obviously fitment depends on wheel width as well. Wider wheels (9J) had slightly larger offsets IIRC

As has been posted, 17" wheels on a 944 would not have been original - so could be almost anything. Could be original Cup 1, 2 etc..(late offset), or Mille Miglia copies (often early offset), or Boxster wheels, or 996 wheels. Your first job should be to find out exactly what wheels they are.

Porsche wheels have offsets stamped next to the valve.

Standard offsets on 17" wheels on a 964 narrow are 55 front and rear. Some were 52 on front.

If you look at the valve on the replacement wheel then the offset and width are displayed if they are genuine Porsche items.

IIRC offsets are very different.

Folks, you really know your stuff and thanks for the help, the wheels are BBS alloys and have the following marks ;

On the inner Hubs the marking are Rear: ALSI7 Mgwa B01 993 362 126 55 BBS and Front: ALSi7 Mgwa B01 993 362 124 51 BBS.

There are other general marking with a general form: Germany RX227 0344026 FR5500 8.5J X 17 et50

Your help is really appreciated.

Very likely to be BBS Sport Classics

Sport Classic rear 8J x 17 ET50
Part number 993.362.126.55

Sport classic front 7J x 17 ET55
Part number 993.362.124.51

This is absolutely a 964 fitment
Here's a few cars with them on.

There's an 18" version called the sport classic 2 which are nicer.

They will fit but the offset (for the rear at least) will need spacers. I found out by putting standard 993 16" wheels on a 964 and found the rears rubbing on the inside of the wheelarches eek

If that happened you probably had the et70 version, perhaps curable with camber adjustment. That said you cant compare those wheels to the OP's as there is a 20mm difference in offset if indeed they were et70.

I was just reading your post to mean that standard 993 wheels will fit a standard 964 and wanted to make the point that they won't (without spacers) in the hope of stopping else someone doing what I did and risk damaging their car or having a blowout. smile

1990 964 wore 6" front and 8" rear Design 90 wheels. The 1990 944 S2 wore 7" front and 8" rear D90s. The rears were the same part and the fronts were broadly similar.

Yes 944 Turbo wheels will fit, but 944 Turbos came with either 7" & 8" x 16" or 7"/7.5" & 9" x 16" wheels: no 17"s.
