newbee looking at series ii for toy use - help please
Discussion
I am thinking of buying a series 2a for a weekend toy and occasional snow use. I am new to classic land rovers and would like some pointers. I am not mechanically minded but understand that these will take a little keeping on the road (i have a tvr so know that!!). Will 4k buy one that is pretty sorted. I like the canvas tops, are hard tops/cabs easily converted? Am I mad to look at them?
i know of a light weight with a 3.5 v8 is up for grabs i can get some pics for you and details! i mot it every year its good fun very loud and quick for a land rover !

Go for as original as possible, without going stupid with the budget. Factory fresh completely unmolested SIIs are rocketing in value.crazyidea said:

True, but most of it can be done yourself or failing that, aftermarket spares and services eclipse any other make.

Yes. You'll get a very solid, original every day drive for that.crazyidea said:

Yes. Spanners and a few hours is all it takes. You'll need to source a few bits beyond the actual tilt itself to convert to rag top, but it's all out there......Seen this?:
Unmolested affordable classic
Then there's the chancer on eBay trying to shift on a similar vehicle, albeit restored, for nearly £25k......yep, twenty five.

It was a suggestion keep your options open a series 2 is not exactly fun!
Mine is
Had it for 5 years now and wouldn't part with it. As has been said, chassis and bulkhead rot are the biggest problems, but it's time rather than cost that is the barrier to sorting these out if you are handy with a welder - unless you go for galvanised replacements.
