Armourfend - Tuscan

Having never really been too keen on armourfend I'm now considering it to try and reduce stone chips.

I guess there may be a few different products which do the same, can anyone advise what sort of cost is involved in the fitting of this stuff? areas for consideration would be the service bonnet, around the headlights, mirrors, behind the wheel arches and possibly the pepper pot grill - of course this would be cost dependant.

Finally is there anyone near Edinburgh that does this type of work...

You have the right TVR to do it, with the bonnet shape and front end, go for it. I am afriad i cant help you with finding a reputable place in your area though?

Mine is done in Paintshield call Anne on 01733 390777 they will come to you, as will armourfend.
Had mine done as soon as I bought it even though the first owner had added a few chips. I have a VXR220 that I had done new and it is still fine.
On the Tuscan I had the service bonnet done half way up and the front done round to include the wings and head lamp area, not the lamps themselves, mirrors, then the rear close to the wheels and exhaust. Done a year ago cost about 450.

I had paintshield about 4 years ago...and I must say it has worked very well..only a few cuts cause by large stones...However, it's now looking dull... I can't get a good shine , and it looks misty.... So I've put my "spare" front end on the Tuscan (inspection,bonnet,front grill and splitters)...and I've stripped the paintshield off everything other than wings... It's come off OK without pulling off any paintwork... So my answer is Yes and NO .... mine cost £700, the question is which is best paintshield or spend your money on a respray ??? ... It is a pisser if you get a respray and a stone chip within days of completion .

Thanks and some interesting views, I guess it's about weighing up the cost vs. a respray. My car is reflex charcoal and the paint is bloody expensive (particularly an additive called harlequin). I've always felt the film stands out like a sore thumb but I guess in a lot of cases the stuff I’ve seen will have been on the vehicle for years.

Can I assume when it's first fitted it's pretty much invisible or do the edges still look obvious?

I think that it brings out the colour in the car when first on. When I polish the car the paint shield get the same and yes there is a line that will show if you dont take care to clean the polish away. Using a micro cloth does the job so your choice. I have armour fend on the other car and that really has stood the test of time. As Keith said you could always get it repainted from time to time.

Thanks, I'm heading to a car show in the North East next weekend which often has a good TVR turn out -might see some examples there.

I'd find some Tuscans that already have amourfend and have a closer look. Mines Copper Cascade with amourfend and if I were to have it done (already on the car when purchased) I'd look for something else. The number of times I get "who scratched your car mister" when people see the join between the amourfend and the unprotected paint -well it's a lot. You are quite welcome to peruse mine - but i'm in Sheffield so it maybe to far. I am going to CITP on Sunday at Newby Hall near Harrogate it that's any closer.

Thanks Phil, your comments probably echoed my original concern. Your a bit far away for me - though the show I'm going to the following weekend is "Fastlane" at Corebridge (nr Hexham/Newcastle).

Had Armorfend on my Sagaris but not my Tuscan, both have/had exotic colours.

The Tuscan had chips all over the place.
The Sag has not.

If you know what you are looking for, you can see the Armorfend joins, but they are not obvious.
