Yes, terribly & it's hereditary for us. Don't smoke, drink moderately if at all, avoid fatty foods, acidic foods - tomatoes, pickles etc & if all else fails, Omeprazole is magic. Omeprazole & Bisodol/Rennie/Chalk - it's all good.

Mostly though, don't smoke & piss it up. The two main planks to a happy stomach.

Only have hitting 30 2 years ago. Mine is only at night though where it would wake me up. I find reducing my alcohol intake, stop having food close to bedtime and try stressing less helps.

I find that sometimes I can still get a scorcher even whilst being on Omeprazole

Yes, have done for about 10 years now. Take Lanzaprpole daily.

I used to drink a bottle of rum, neat in a big session. Didn't help. Still drink a lot but stick to ale.

Me too, but I have also run out of Omeprazole in the past & ended up throwing Bisodol down the hatch like smarties. I'd be lost without it.

I suffered with acid reflux for 10 years, waking up in the middle of the night feeling like someone had poured battery acid down my throat and was on Omeprazole daily. Tried avoiding all the usual suspects, cheese, fruit juice, beer, spicy food etc........finally tried going gluten free after reading some articles online in the paleo community. Within 10 days the reflux went and I no longer use omperazole wink

If you're carrying any weight round your middle, losing a bit of that will help.

Yes, bigtime. It's vile.

Can anyone tell me: can Omeprazole/Lansoprazole actually stop there from *being* reflux, or just stop it from being acidic and painful? I religiously take my lansoprazole (actually prescribed to protect stomach from long-term NSAID use) but still end up tasting my breakfast when I wasn't intending to. hurl

They're just proton pump inhibitors, they reduce the secretion of acid into your stomach. The underlying problem of stomach contents getting past the cardiac sphincter is not fixed.

What dose are you on, maybe that you need to up it....40mg a day is the maximum dose you can take.

I take this dosage and never get heartburn now, it was bad though as it gave me oesophagitis, gastritis and duodenitis.

Too much heartburn can seriously damage the oesophagus so if you've had it for a long time it maybe worth having a gastroscopy.

Gotcha. Makes a lot of sense but is I think something a lot of people don't really understand. Reflux is a problem typical of my underlying 'primary' condition so given that they're not going to offer me a fundoplication, it's put up and shut up time.

I had a fundoplication back in 1996 one of the youngest guys at the time ! Did have bad acid and was advised continuous use of losec ameprazole could lead to possible stomach cancer due to the lack of acid over the very long term although it was greats and cured the acid.Would I have the operation again possibly not i have suffered bad flatulance ever since. Can get food especially bread stuck half way down .Full stomach sometimes after a small meal and then end up picking not long after. Not recently but in the past have had numerous gastroscopies to try and investigate stomach cramps and food blockage and had the operation area stretched although not as bad now.

If I had my time again I'd focus more on my diet and other forms of therapy and operate as last resort.I'm 45 by the way so around 28 when I had operation maybe far better now although same procedure.
