On mine when this happened it turned out to be the little white connector block in the middle of the steering wheel boss (you will see them if you take the steering wheel off). The outside one was for the wiper button and one of my terminals had corroded away.
I bought a pack of tiny female connections from maplin that were almost the same and made them fit in the white connector block.
That said, could be a a prob at a couple of points. Good news it is pretty easy to trouble shoot once you get your head around the wiring diagram. I did and I am pretty stupid!
