Possible LS7 Sagaris
Discussion
Hi all
Firstly great to see so many of you at Chats yesterday, had a great day.
For those who know me, you will all be too familiar with my current Sag (F1 SAG) and you would of all heard me mown about the sound of all my exhaust system. i have not yet found that Magic sound that I had on my old T350c. I have spent a few bob now and am still not satisfied. Also I seem to be falling out of love with my Speed Six. Don't get me wrong, when it's on song it's great and with the close ratio kit motor sort upgrade kit and a 3.7:1 ratio on the diff it certainly doesn't hang around.
It's simply when I look at Paul's Sag and Simon's Tuscan, and the all new Tuscan by Str8six and look aat how the V8 sits in so neatly, I believe this is the route for me. I have decided that I need to go LS7 route as I would like to keep the Sag for a long time. So to cut the long story short I am looking for some help and feed back from current LS7 Tiv owners, who can kindly share their thoughts and day to day experiences with the LS running gear. If I could get a ride as a passenger in any of the cars that would be the icing on the cake!!! Please feel free to email me and I can supply you contact details etc.
If any of you can also advise me were would be the best place to advertise all the cars existing running gear that would be great and do I leave all in car for any new owners to test derive car to prove engine and running gear is all good?
Thanking you all in advance.
Chris

you are talking £15,000 for a S6 engine upgrade that gives around 50bhp and 50lbft extra than standard so i can understand why owners look at other engines, it's not something i could do to any of my cars as i love staight six engines and the TVR one especially the 4.5 S6 is very special, they sound great as well,
good luck,
is this the racing green sag you are thinking of barrying?

ive had a few Ls project cars over the last 10 years... (including a ls7 cobra replica) and currently have a lS griff.
are you undertaking this yourself, or using specialists?
if in the midlands, you're welcome to try mine
in your chassis, a ls7/tremec too fitted with .85 5th and a std diff will be fine. don't be tempted with the 6 speed 6060 box, it is too tight in the t car chassis.
you could replace the diff ratios with a 3.07, which would be about perfect with your tyre dia and the characteristics of the ls7.
I think a 3.77 is too short for the engine, unless you are seriously into drag strip type attempts!
regards running, my LS toys have rarely had any running issues, as long as the installs are undertaken properly.
the LS is very easy and lazy to use, masses of low torque, and very easy to maintain. (no tappet or shimmimg etc), cams are simple to replace and it is very easy to tune and setup.
incidentally, there is a ls7 on ebay at the moment, and pete knight who has built it (i think is well respected with the LS in the uk.

Just out of interest - what led you to decide on an LS7 over an LS3?
IF i was going the ls7 route (ie more money than ls3)....might be tempted with the LSA type supercharged engines....if it would fit. same outley as ls7, but a "cooler" noise..... and as you do seem to like the noise a car makes!Russ and Simon (H&B or nearby) have both gone the LS route. Russ had his done at Top Cats and I think Simon did as well.
Good luck whatever you decide. I wanted to keep at least the engine as original as poss., but wanted to get the lingering concerns
about it out of my mind, which is why I went the TVR Power route.
You might also find the LS conversion does affect the value in a negative way. Or at least that is what I have seen.

Hi Chris, funny how we both share the same name and both own green Sags with reg plates virtually identical!!
Seems like we might share an interest in LS engines as well, if your near Surrey your welcome to come and try my LS Griff which has a slightly breathed on LS 3 which is about 50 hp down on an LS 7 not that you would notice on the PH
You cannot really compare the LS to a SP 6 as they are so totally different in character although in pure power terms i have not seen any sp6 whether 4,4.3,4.5 o produce near to 500hp which is still 50 hp down on a crate LS7, very happy to be proved wrong on this, and please don't get me wrong i love the SP6 especially the 4.3 in the Sag but one is substantially quicker than the other fact!
A good guy to talk to would be Braders who my car came from as he has just switched from a sorted 4.3 to LS power with the new Tuscan Vulcan although not LS 7 damn close in terms of power, i suppose Blackiepaul is the only one who could compare a standard SP6 road Sag with an LS7 engined road Sag although his car has now evolved well past the state of a simple LS install!
One way i like to compare the two is the SP6 feels like a thoroughbred race horse beautiful when on song whilst the LS feels like a shire horse on steroids brutal from the off, definitely takes a TVR to its limits on the road
Send me a PM if your in the area.

Another thought - the driving characteristics are very different as well - mainly down to the torque. My S6 engine setup means that everything comes at the top end, and you drive accordingly. But the LS means you can make the same kind of progress without the revs.... With the caveat of the S6 is faster at the top end.
It really is a different style of driving. The beauty of the LS is that is is so cheap to get extra parts, tune up, and you can make silly, silly power - especially if you consider the most powerful N/A S6 is still 55bhp shy of a crate LS7 as said before, and over 100lb/ft.
Horses for courses really. I'd understand why you went that way, but I'm very glad I kept the Sagaris as a S6, and went another route with the LS.

I don't see what the problem is - just put the S6 engine, ecu, gearbox, diff, driveshafts, air intakes etc. in a box and in the future should you decide a "factory" Sagaris is a better bet just swap it back in. Simple.
Then you can put in your LS 550bhp engine, have some fun, decide you need more power and bolt on an ECS supercharger kit for about 4k which should take you well over 700bhp, have some more fun...safe in the knowledge that your TVR bits are available if you feel overcome with sentiment and want to return it to stock.

Or seriously, Chris, if the Sag no longer does it for you, then sell it and get something that does. You should be able to get a tidy sum for her and then take your time looking for a car which ticks all the boxes for you.
Just a thought.
Wise words; the trouble with modifying is it's a slippery slope, once you start where do you stop?Just a thought.
I've heard of cars disappearing into workshops never to be seen again!

It's your car do what you like with it, if it was me I'd leave as is and drive it 24/7

LOL! Your Sagaris seems to be the least standard one out there!Just a thought.
I say go for it.

+1 this is what I would do...chances are you can afford to not sell the bits if your thinking of an LS. I would go out with blackiepaul im sure he can offer the best advise.
