Glove box keeps opening
Discussion
Does anyone else have the same irritation that every time you go over a bump (or accelarate hard) the glove box flies open? It drives me nuts. I had a look at the "hook mechanism" which, in their wisdom, TVR decided to use. Pethetic little thing (bit like trying to hadcuff terrorists with cotton). I can't believe the engineers could get so much right about the car and get this, very simple thing, wrong. I was considering super-gluing the damn thing shut - never use it anyway! However, has anyone got any more intelligent ideas?
Got no problems either with mine. The male part of the latch was way out then closing the glove box due to the 2 being at different angles. I made an angled washer for the male part and all is now hunky.
Failing that either tighten the bolts to stop it opening or if you want a working one you could get the mod-wise kit.

I have found that once you do manage to fix the catch you then can't open the lid without digging your fingernails into the PVC and risk damaging the surface, so perhaps tightening the hinges should not be overdone. I have been in touch with Mod-Wise recently (for a bonnet-stay kit) and have been told that due to other business pressures he is no longer supplying parts, so this I suppose would include the glove box mod.

Mine doesn't - never has done - when I bought the car they told me not to slam the lid shut as it damages the catch. I never have and it has worked perfectly.

That's fine but you can't account for a passenger who knocks it open with their knee and then slams it shut
as happened to mine smashing it. I now make sure that people don't touch and it's worked perfectly ever since.srebbe64 said:

Mice love Griff gloveboxes, so they have their uses... - as for the auto opening feature - just think how much extra you would have to pay on a Merc's options list to get that!!

you really should get a central locking solenoid in the corner of the glovebox, connected to a supply that only allows it to open when the doors are unlocked and only when you press up with a certain force. You will however loose the "TVR Griff glovebox", sorry but one has to move on !
