Michelin PSS size not available for Cayman S

I'm looking to replace all 4 tyres on my Cayman S with Michelin Pilot Super Sports, which I only read good reviews about. I'm currently using the recommended size 235/40 R18 on the front.
Trouble is, i've been told they don't make the correct size for the front tyres, are other people using these on the front of their Boxster/Cayman, and is so what size did you fit? Or have I been told wrong and actually you can get them in this size (i've searched and to be fair I can't find them in that size).
I realise they're not N-rated tyres.

How much would it be, and would you be prepared to change to 19" rims? I did consider that, and I do quite fancy the Carrera S wheels on the Cayman, but its an expensive way to get a set of Super Sports! Event Tyres have been very helpful in calling around and speaking with a number of suippliers and Michelin UK confirmed that they don't sell this size in the UK or Europe. You can get them in the US and TireRack.com stock them and the gentleman at Event said if I decided to order the fronts from the US and the rears from them then theyd be happy to fit all 4.
Trouble is, the cost is not much less for the tires alone, add to that the shipping cost (US$196!) and the import duties (c.30%) and it starts to look a little crazy...i'm not sure they PSS are they good to justify that kind of uplift in cost.
I think i'll probably go with the PS2.

I fitted PSS on my Cayman on 18" wheels when they first came out.
The rears were available in the correct 265 cross-section, but I ended up using the 245 on the front.
I have since sold the car to my mate who has been replacing them as they wear with the same sizes.
I had no issue running the extra width on the front. It actually felt really really good. The whole tyre is a big step up from the PS2 though, so that was to expected.
I wouldn't bother upgrading to 19" wheels. I actually went down in size from 19's to 18's. The ride/handling compromise is much better.
I'd just go the PSS 245 and 265 route on the 18's.

Just wanted to get further info on this. I am also about to replace the tyres on my 2006 Cayman S and am hoping switch from Michelin PS2s to PSSs. As has been mentioned above, the correct size front tyres are not available for the 18inch Cayman S rims. Has anyone else gone down the route suggested by Jackwood and used 245/40 size front tyres instead of the recommended 240/40? Are there any potential pitfalls to this route?

unlike the N spec issue and being insured. ie a non issue :-)
if you crash a car with the tyres fitted with incorrect size you maybe have a much larger issue and may well not be insured.
I just had to jump though hoops on even factory fit options to get insured correctly.
I would not try and tell the girl/man on the phone" I have fitted non oem size to my car will I be insured" because I bet they say "no"

I just spoke to a chap at Michelin who seemed to know what he was talking about. He said that Michelin and Porsche arent really doing much about non-current models - they are going to N-rate the 991 tyres but have no immediate plans to N-rate smaller Porsche specs.
He also said "It's a bit of a joke, really, because the PSS is a better tyre - we know that, Porsche knows that. But they even say it will invalidate the warranty, which doesnt make any sense." Spot on.

They don't seem to be in a big hurry with the current models either though.Did he say anything about MPSS for the 981, or is that what you mean by a smaller spec?

The invalidation of warranty issue I am not concerned about because my car isnt under the Approved Porsche warranty. The insurance issue is more concerning so I spoke to my insurance company this afternoon and they said that they would be fine if I were to fit the PSSs as long as they fulfil legal requirements.They had no issue with the fact that they are not the exact size recommended by the manufacturer. Given this, and the general acceptance that the PSS is the better tyre, is there any reason not to use them? Im interested if there would be any change in the dynamics of the car with a slightly wider front tyre?
It was a positive experience for me going to 245 at the front. After I sold the car it ran for a further 2 years with that set up by my best friend(he bought it off me). It was used in a Drive TV feature with that set up as well. I used the car at numerous tracks, as did my friend, and it did 10's of thousands of road miles with that set up. It always performed faultlesly. Much better tyre all round than the PS2.

This has happened before (the well known example being that the rears for 997 GT2 and 4.0 and 3.8RS models have only ever even been offered in the US). The usual solution is - I kid you not - to ship them back across the Atlantic via TireRackAs a footnote - if going for non-OE sizes, cover yourself by telling your insurer (my policy has a note for wider tyre sizes under modifications as I run the RS sized fronts on my 3.8 Clubsport and it was no hassle nor extra cost).
