Hi Guys,

I am going to have a blast round at this, i went last year and its good fun and £20 a sesh.
Its a very mixed bag of cars, and i am sponsoring the Compact Cup car they are racing with some brake pads, so want to make sure its done right!
If anyone wants to hop in mine to see what it goes like they are welcome, but no finger marks in the dash!! hehe

Do you need a motor sport licence, I think some of the Mallory days you do

and the new owners are a bit tighter on this than the old owner was

No just your driving licence and a skid lid.

Just watch out for certain nutters on track wink

Well I popped along and had a ride.

Initially I was surprised as to how comfy the Cerb was! (Maybe just me expecting a harsh setup because of running slicks.)

It didn't take long to get the tyres warm and so the pace increase.

The power/gearing/grip of the car I thought was well balanced. Huge power, plenty grip (using 2nd pushed this though!) and the right gearing not to waste time changing gear excessively.

Most of the track was in 3rd with the two quickest sections (end of the straight & just before the Esses) sometimes good for a bit of 4th (if there wasn't too much traffic about), and 2nd for the 180 degree hairpin (Shaws Corner).

It did initally take me a little bit of time to get used to the cars capabilities. Whilst hitting 7k rpm in 3rd doing and 130mph I would initially brace for braking but Paul would snatch 4th for a second or so, then we were doing 140mph before really piling on the brakes (and quite often passing lots of other cars into the corner).

During the braking I'd feel weightless with all my weight going through my arm and the Cerb centre console hehe The combination of slicks, 343mm front disks and 6 pot calipers was rather impressive biggrin (not forgetting the right pads (a slightly more aggressive compound was being tried out by Paul), wonder who can supply these, will have to investigate, ahem).

Unlike a C63 AMG Merc the brakes didn't start to smoke after a session hehe.

Amazing motor that Brummie yes

Everyone watching just stood in amazement at the acceleration down the straight, and the fact it didn't stop getting faster! As I say it looked like everyone else was slowing for yellow flags!

Traffic must get frustrating though surely? I appreciate it's quickly dispatched but within seconds your back with another pack.

It was a good day put, but a circuit that small is always going to be problematic with traffic, at Silverstone you can really stretch its legs!!
Third gear let go in the last session, but its put up with years of stick, hundreds of drag runs and dozens of track days, in all 25000 miles since we built it.
Gearbox is out this afternoon, and there are many missing teeth on third, so its a good look in the box by the man down the road and back in as the seasons is not long eh!?

Glad you enjoyed watching it go! smile
Thanks for the pics, the one leaving black lines out of the hairpin is cool cool
