What is your wedge's DB equivalent to??
Discussion
Its got me thinking..If the new MOT DB law is going to hinder the luscious sound of your wedge as from next year..What else would have to tone it down a bit according to the new reg's..Lets say they regulate it at 90DB for arguements sake..Using the DB comparison what is your's equivalent to..
Mines 119db so im as loud as or nearly as loud as a rock concert..Or a rock amplifier..And a symphonic orchestra..There for it is music to your ears..
..Right turn down any rock or symphonic concerts..Im also only 5db louder than a trombone..

I like the way they say "Background noise" should be between 50-60DB..What background noise is that then if the DB of city traffic is 85db..I think this is just another way of squeezing more money from car drivers..We already pay through the nose for fuel..Maintenance and servicing..Road tax..MOT's..And some of us ..Insurance..I agree if its a known trouble spot for noisy cars gathering..Better be careful at the BNG and Wedgefest then..But to penalise everyone else is a bit lame..This should not apply to classic cars or classic sports cars!..My neighbours dont really moan about mine...Well one person who i dont really talk to does...Ziga
Mine was loudest at a Wedge Fest a few years ago at 126db
This then set the Wedge Support Vehicles (ex London v8 Ambulance) smoke alarm off as well, to add even more noise to the proceedings
Never really seemed that loud, but then it was always behind m !
I did have a couple of times mothers dragging their children closer to them when I used to go past in town centres, always made me smile and for some reason, dip the clutch and rev a tad more
The dogs at home could always tell when I was coming down the road and rush up to the window to look out, but they seem to hear the TT as well.

Does anyone know what the new MOT regulations will state?
All my MOT inspector said was that next year they are clamping down on noise levels of exhaust systems..(Spoil sports)..I think the current law is a limit of 89DB...That means i have to loose 30DB..Im looking for some push fit silencers just for the MOT..Does this mean that MOT stations are going to start using DB meters?..Probably not..Why do we have to be quiet!..What damage to the enviroment or planet is noise doing?..Never mind the shyte that comes out the back of some of the s
t boxes driving about..You'll spend enough time being quiet when your dead!..More of big brother if you ask me..I say "f
k em"...ZigaHi
Talking with a friendly MOT man, and there are no plans for next year,
But after that if the car has an obviously moded exhust system when the law changes they will not pass even with added noise systems fitted. They will have to look like a permanent system other wise they will fail it!
So what Ian has been doing will be OK but push in silencers will not!
If the system looks original and produces to higher level then it will pass as that how they were made Sir!
The same as the lights are, some wedges have side repeaters where the early cars don't its what the car was made with which counts!
This is designed to stop the boy racers with things like there 106s with and exhust pipe out the back nearly as big as football etc making all this noise and no go!

That's my understanding too. There's also the very difficult task of defining a standard TVR exhaust. But after that if the car has an obviously moded exhust system when the law changes they will not pass even with added noise systems fitted. Hi
So exhust with just a small box on the back which is so obviously not original will fail even if it has temp silencers fittted to reduce the noise it will fail!
A good original system with no inards which make 129db at least will pass!
So my SEAC will be OK!
O! I can't wait till I get behind the wheel of her, just being a passanger to France in her next week will not be enough!

I beleive the MOT stations will have pic of manufactures type approval exhust layout on the system for them to check against. So some small changes would be OK by complete redesigns will not especally if they go above the approved noise limits!
Its as simple as that!

No changes for next year..Well thats good news..I can some noise for another year...Would they have exhaust layout diagrams for wedges?..So my MOT station is lying..Right wont go there agian...
I guess they just want to quieten you down a bit if they have to put their fingers in their ears every time u drive past lol
