Im going with a brown Dash, and pretty much everything else Tan,
The walnut and glove box,is also gonna be tan leather, when I can get the clock surround off.
Grated it looks a bit cak at the min, but just thought I'd get some feedback?

Here is a picture of a stainless steel dash I just put in my 400SE just recently. I put stainless steel because I thought being a black car stainless steel would be a good contrast, and I like it. When I put this to the test with fellow Wedgers, the response was rather negative. It seems our fellow Wedgers prefer the traditional look. It's a matter of taste. If you want something that's going to make you happy, then go with your instincts and fit what suits. Brown and tan seems an excellent contrast to me and goes well with the exterior of your car. It may not please most, but as long as it pleases you, that's all that matters.

Well SS and Black will always work in my book.

And yeah agreed, it's down to what your own taste is.
I've got a new Chocolate Brown roof as well which I'm hoping will tie in nicely
The Burgundy does seem to go well with the tan.
But I'm sure some wont agree like ya say.

Thanks for the response mate.

I think engine-turning as a dash finish was largely a pre-war thing? I went well with big, white-faced instruments and polished brass. If you'd gone for a brushed look it might have had wider appeal... but you didn't do it for us, you did it for you wink

Correct! You should see the other side, it's just a mash of glue and torn vinyl,
It's not going to stay like that if coarse.
I just flipped it round while I recover it.
I just couldn't look at it any longer!

Hi
Well as your car is the same colour as mine and would say the tan would go nicely, but not to sure on the brown, but never a easy thing to get right, but if it works for you, then great, just doing mine at present which has had to be denoted by the new seats which are carcoal/ light grey in colour, so am just about to re-colour all the leather carcoal, but am still not quite convinced i have got it right, good luck am sure it will turn out great, cheers Ralph

Here's another option for you Guy's. I know its not going to be everyones cup of tea as its not original.

I've just had my complete dash and door trims/handles done in hydrographics. The pics below don't really do it justice as the flash has show the pattern a few shade lighter than it is in the flesh.

The colour options are endless. They even do a snake skin option! Not sure what sort of chavy car you would want to put that in?

Anyway feed back was pretty good the weekend. If anyone wants any details drop me an email.

Karl

Hi Karl

It looks OK to most people it would look original.

If you like it no problem with that mate!

That is one of the hardest things to find in good original condition. "Hotty" did a resnoable dash and clove box lid replacment a couple of years ago, I even got a set fitted on one of my cars as you can't get replacments easly!

Yeah I guess there is always gonna be several schools of thought on the whole thing, when you change something.
I recently restored a 67 MGB GT.
The inside was ..... Well there may as well not have been one, so I set to completely restoring the interior.
The colour scheme looked great IMO
But was never originally like that.

But that didn't stop it looking great in one hand and selling within 36 hrs of advertising.
I prob should have held out for more, but The wedge had caught my eye and I was powerless!

That's great Dixie, the majority if mine is going to be tan.
But that gives me a good idea of the centre console as I'm toying between both colours.

Looks nice by the way.

Ah thanks mate, means a lot as I didn't get any help, all done on my drive!
It wasn't quite finished in that pic.. I had to recover and fit door cappings..

A classic car garage rang me as soon as it went on cars and classics and came down with the readys!

I just want to get the TVR sorted now, however I'm looking to keep it
For a good amount of time. I have a v8 version and just can't get enough of the sound!

I love what you did to that MGB but I'm not so sure about your wedge BUT the main thing is that you like, you are the one who will be looking at it and who cares what a load of random people off the internet say.

Well yeah, that's right, however it's always nice when other people like what you have done,
It is only going to be the dash in brown the glovebox and clock /switch surrounds and everything else will be tan.

I think the Worst case is I get the dash recovered in the tan Leather, but I'll wait to see it completed and judge it.

My interior seemed a bit dark so I went for a light coloured option in birdseye maple. Longer term I'd like to change the colour of the leather to something more complimentary to the wood.
