Morning all,

My dad is looking to buy a T350 from Target Cars but seeing as though it's so far away, before we make the trip we would like to get an idea of whether they are a trusted seller among the PH community, or whether they are the TVRDean of the Netherlands. The car in questions has a straight story in the advertisement and after emailing further to ask the standard questions, things seem to check out.

Any thoughts or experiences?

Thanks,
Alex

Eindhoven is on the way to Zolder/Spa/Nurburgring, so you could combine a visit to the TVRCC event at Zolder and the Spa Classic later this month; or a trip to the 'Ring.

That would be ideal! The only issue I have with this car is that it has no MOT or Tax, so the other problem is bringing it back. We're still trying to work out how we're going to do it.

Option 1 we have is to drive it. We're thinking we could book an MOT slot in the UK on the day we go to pick it up, then be legally able to drive it back on the premise we're going straight to an MOT station, even though it's a 400mile trip.

Option 2 is that we have it delivered, this will cost nearly £500 and isn't as fun.

Option 3 is that we rent a trailer, then it's £100+ for supplying and fitting a tow bar and about £50 for hiring a trailer, then there is the ferry and fuel costs.

They used to get some VX220's in a while back just before I bought one. They advertised one that was (IIRC) a Cat C repair with no mention of anything in the ad.

Just saying.

Thanks, I'll be sure to do a HPI check on this particular car

I'm sure that is the case and was just pointing it out as something to be aware of and to do some homework, rather than blithely accepting what is in the ad wink

Not in a million years would i buy from them without seeing the car in person.

Pro's:
Cheap

Cons:
No Waranty
Lots repaired/damaged cars
No test drive

Couldn't agree more with you. I know my dad would never be prepared to buy a car like this without seeing it first.

Re the HPI check - as the car has presumably been used/regd abroad would any relevant details from there have been recorded with the usual UK HPI people? Not sure but may be worth looking further re that in case.

i did ask them about a car once, they did confirm over the phone it was a cat c or d (cant recall), but about all i got was single syllable responses.....hard to "like" someone who won't talk to you properly....

Another PH member has contacted me and provided some very useful information, including its last MOT certificate. It has only covered 200 miles since it was MOT'd in the UK. This car was sold to Target in the Netherlands where it's been stored since. I'm assuming that there wouldn't be much more to add to its history but I agree that it's worth checking out.

Thanks

Also if it is a CAT C will need a vehicle inspection before it can hit the road in the UK it will always be worth less than a pukka car & could need load of work to get through inspection go & get a proper car prices are fairly stable at present if you keep it 3 years chances are you will get all or most of your money back.Just be careful.

The majority of their cars are UK cars. They buy them in the UK and then sell them from there place over in the Netherlands. it just does not make sense.

Some while ago I went to see a Cerb in the UK, that susequently appeared on their web site, with no mention of a very long list of things that were wrong with it - maybe they fixed it....

My advise, dont even think about buying something you haven't seen....

Thanks for the responses so far, just to clarify -

A) We wouldn't purchase the car without viewing it first.

B) This is a British registered car, so it has UK numberplates.

C) We're now aware there is information that Target may be holding back, so we'll have to take even more care when inspecting it.

D) The car isn't a CAT B,C or D. Another PH member undertook a HPI check on this particular car and kindly forwarded the report to us.

Our plan is to go view in the next two weeks. We think this time window will be OK because they've had it up for sale for nearly a year now (a statistic that gives us further cause for concern!)
