just found this video, quite interesting anyway about the seat itself but the best bit is at 15 seconds where Lewis admits to falling asleep between qualifying sessions!

I remember hearing Pete Townsend of the Who saying how he has a condition where faced with a high adrenalin situation, such as just before going on stage, it would make him sleepy and he could fall asleep.

Admittedly not the same level of pressure, and I've probably worked a bit harder beforehand, but I fall asleep in the assembly area at times. Have been woken by a marshal banging on my lid!

Lex Joon has done that strapped in to his 8000hp top fuel dragster waiting for the rain to stop. He said that its very snug and comfortable when you are strapped in and he just nodded off, his wife woke him and he proceeded on a low 4 second run. I guess that must of woken him up a bit!

Yeah, I've raced for a good few years and nearly always struggle to stay awake in the assembly area.. Its a bid odd-i can go from being asleep to fully alert at a moments notice in that situation..
Other than that I'm not that simillar to Lewis Hamilton

That'd be an interesting study for someone to do (if they have not already).

We all hear about "fight or flight", but I wonder if there is a "sequence" that the body go's through when it's preparing for a known high stress event in the near future, where it deliberately calms us down, and perhaps that "doze" makes us perform better afterwards....

Kimi is known to have a snooze (and a dump!) before races to.

I also used to switch off between karting heats- but that was because I unfit!

I used to fall asleep on the uplift bus between Downhill Mountain Bike Runs, everyone else would be all talking gibberish at once from the adrenalin and I'd be nodding off.

Adrenalin build up can make you feel sleepy. Happens to me prior to racing. Yawns. Feel low on energy etc.

I must say I felt quite sleepy yesterday between qualifying and racing in our uni karting championship. Mind you, that could be because I'd gone to bed at 5am that morning

I'd imagine part of the reason for the comfort is the way the seat is moulded the individual?

I would say so. And probably requires that they don't change shape too much. I suspect for us mere mortals a fitting before Christmas and trying to sit on it afterwards might be...upsetting.

Been there, done that. My crew were generally never happy when they found me snoozing in the car between rounds, but that's just how it went sometimes!

maybe but that seat in the picture would be nice if it came without all the toys and was 1/2 length... just need to figure a way to make it so its not just going to fall backwards.

If I remember right it's beneficial to have a higher nose for aerodynamic reasons hence why the monocoque is so high at that section, it will also be due to rules regarding front nose height to stop cars submarining under each other in a front to rear impact I guess.
