Would appreciate some advice. car has not been run for about 3 months (1998 4.2)due to bad weather and health issues. car has been tucked up in garage. pressed starter no problem fired up immediately, but clutch pedal goes straight to floor when pressed. there is absolutely nothing there. Checked master cylinder - full. No fluid has been lost. Just wondering what else it could be. Could the slave have gone and not lost any fluid, or could it be the pressure plate?? I've had the car for 7 years and it's still on the same clutch and slave.

If you're certain no fluid has been lost and there's no pedal resistance, I guess it has to be master cylinder seals. Certainly an easier job than replacing the slave.

Its unlikely that the fingers would break while sitting still which leaves a hydraulic problem. As there is fluid in the master either the seals in the master or the seals in the slave may be bypassing fluid. Usually if the slave seals go then it will leak but not necessarily.

I would try bleeding the clutch first and see if the master is generating enough pressure to move fluid. If not replace the master and try again, if it is pull the slave.

Had the same thing last week, had a new master fitted at Str8six and all's good.

Master cylinder seals probably gone, try bleeding the clutch,if it wont bleed that`s the problem.

Don't assume that if the reservoir is full you have not leaked fluid. Mine has leaked in the past and the reservoir never dropped.

What he said.

I 'thought' that mine hadn't leaked but after bleeding, and triply checking, found that I had about 20 litres of fluid in the footwell - (but I am a blind prat )

You probably already know but, just in case, M/C Seal Kits from here
