Driving back from Sevenoaks to Walton, I fancied seeing what MPG I could get out of my Z4M...
Best I saw was 41.5 indicated
Down to 37.6 by the time i'd come off the motorway and driven through a few miles of stop start town driving.
What a mighty engine, all the fun you can have when you're in the mood and 30mpg plus when you're just driving home.

The straight line motorway cruise tho is a rare situation for many. I can get our x3 to do 55-60mpg in such a situationBest I saw was 41.5 indicated

I'd be lucky to get 26 mpg (imperial) out of the E39 M5. That's with overtaking a few here and there. It feels like a crime to drive it like my grandpa would.
Don't get me wrong. 99% of the time i'll not see great mpg. Today I just felt in the mood to see what I could acheive. Normal service shall resume tomorrow!

Even a 40 mile run at an enforced 50mph on cruise will not yield more than 34mpg in mine.
I can however get it to show 99mpg by resetting it on a long downhill stretch - but after the downhill stretch has ended it will steadily/quickly drop into the 30s.
I promise no cheating, i had reset the mpg counter when i left Sevenoaks and 41.5mpg was indicated by the exit for the A3. I was doing 56-60, no cruise. Car had normal luggage etc. no intention of doing an eco run but the enforced 50mph round junction 5-6 and being behind the same lorry till Cobham services, just thought i'd give it a go. As I said earlier. Normal motorway is 28-31mpg. Nice to know the car can do it though.

20mpg long term average in my E36. Occasionally reset the trip on a motorway though, simply to see a magical number starting with 3!

I've got serious want for a Z4M, have seen a few recently and they just look perfect. Need to keep my E36 for a while though to balance out last year's expenditure. And hopefully by next year Z4Ms might have dropped a bit further

Is slipstreaming not cheating?

Anyhow, the drive there today was rubbish and 38 miles took me 2 1/2 hours = teen mpg.

My average commuting in the Z4M is 21mpg, but the tank is a bit smaller than the M3 so I end up filling it every 200 miles or so.

Sounds about right to me. I shouldn't be listened to though I went from 30s mpg z4mc, low teens m6, to about 9mpg now.

Sorry, wasn't questioning your integrity/honesty As I said earlier. Normal motorway is 28-31mpg. Nice to know the car can do it though.

Was just pointing out that I've not got a very light right foot

Although did enjoy the sun yesterday evening and kept it below 80mph to achieve an indicated 30.3mpg on the 212 mile trip home from Brentford and Liverpool.
Average over the life of the car (90% motorway/A-road commute, 10% 'Ring trips) is about 27mpg - or 27.5mpg over the last 5 months that I've been logging it on fuelly (as below). There are peaks and troughs of course, as I do like the regular driving day/weekend in Wales.

On a 200 mile motorway cruise I saw a staggering 24.3mpg indicated on the v10.
This was with the cruise control set to bang on 70mph for 95% of the drive.
On the flip side, I can see an indicated 8-10mpg after some spirited driving......what a cracking engine.

I get 15mpg average.. I just wish that the fuel tank was bigger since I do 60 miles a day
