I have a TomTom XL IQ which came with a UK & Ireland map and is about 3 yrs old.

Worked fine up to last summer when I purchased a Central Europe map.

When I downloaded it, it wiped my UK map. I eventually managed to get the UK map reloaded from a back up but ever since I've had sporadic problems where my laptop doesn't recognise my TomTom unit. This has now resulted in a permanent problem so I can't update it or more importantly load waypoint itineraries via Tyre.

I've contacted TomTom support and they want a minimum £70 to look to repair it - it may be more when they look at it or it may not be repairable of course.

So, the advice I'm after - do I fix or replace?

The must haves are UK and Central Europe maps and loading waypoint itineraries via tyre - I know that means refurbed older model if I stick with TomTom..

I know nothing about Garmin or other brands.

Thanks in advance.
