Tyres for airfield track day?

I'm doing a track day at Elvington Airfield towards the end of this month . By all accounts the surface there is very abrasive on tyres.

My Griffith currently has Toyo Proxes T1-S all round, but when I bought the car the owner also gave me 2xfulda extremo (front) and 2xgoodyear eagle gs-c (rear), which he took off when he bought it only a few months before. basically changed them because he was fastidious about all-round tyres etc.

I was pondering whether it'd be worth getting a cheap set of chim wheels and using this spare rubber at the airfield? That way I can drift and slide and have as much fun as I like without worrying about how much rubber I'm burning!

Question is, will the cons of having different tyres front-and-rear outweigh the pro's of the extra slidey fun I can have?

I figure if I can get a cheap set of wheels (ie < cost of tyres), it may be worth it. Or do I just bung the spare rubber on ebay or something?

Never really heard of Fulda before but I understand they're a german goodyear-made tyre, budget but high performance. obviously the goodyear are a pretty good tyre.

Yes Elvington bloody abrasive on tyres. Get something old on there and you'll be able to enjoy yourself.

Be careful to stay on the hard stuff, Elvington grassed areas are like ploughed fields and will flip a car very quickly. Thankfully there's plenty of hard stuff.

yup. all tracks are very abrasive on tyres.. it's like something from the matrix.. u won't believe how fast you can go round corners on a track.

most club racers run on remolds if on a budget. nice and stickly in the dry..shite in the wet.

I would certainly recommmend sticking a set of part worns or remolds on for a full track day unless ( as many people on here are lets face it) u are rolling in it.

For comparisn', when I go on on a track day on the fireblade I go through a set of tyres in a day (300 quid). That's why I don't do that many bike track days fun as they are :-/

A mate with a Griff says the breakaway is much kinder on the Goodyears than the Bridgestones, must be worth a try?

True but Elvington is something else. The tread isn't worn away by abrasion; it's literally ripped off in chunks by the broken and potholed surface.
