Alternator belt

Alternator belt came off over weekend so all lights on dash came on and I lost power steering. One of pulley's on engine has come loose so garage will tighten and replace belt, however can I drive car to garage (about half a mile) without power steering or should I get low loader to take it???? Thanks

Personally I'd drive it. Steering will be very heavy though

Don't forget the battery won't charge so if you do drive don't use anything like the heater or radio to save battery power
