Cobra Replica 427
Discussion
I'd add Dax (DJ Sprtscars) to the list especially with their trick front suspension. Also GD have a good rep and can supply an LS7 (or 3 if on a budget) engine to fit from thier sister company.
An alternative is the Hawk cars (also Kirkham importers), the 289 done well is a thing of beauty.
Finally, if you want to be really different then there are a few Daytona Cobra replicas (coupe hard tops), may be worth a search as these are really stunning. (British American, Factory Five, Superperformance)
Always dreamed of a GD Mk3 (the slightly squashed one) done out like a Bardahl Trophy car (but with no doors, wrap around aero screen, no chrome and underslung pipes) with an M5 V10 engine - not that authentic but a bit different and would sound glorious.
Best thing is to make up a list (style, engine, gearbox, trim, donor/bit options), do the internet searching and spec/price comparisons and then get out and visit the top three of four choices. You will be spending quite a bit of dosh and you need to know how the suppliers perform, if they can support you and whether you will get on well with them as you will undoubtedly have many questions along the way, also check out the owners clubs as an active one of these is a godsend. Hope I am not telly granny to suck eggs but a few hundred pounds in petrol and a couple of weekends spent now will save years of heartache.
All the very best on your hunt and hope you have the budget to do the Cobra name justice.

A good number of these guys are at Stoneleigh this weekend (Ak, GD, Dax, Hawk, list on site), along with quite a few owners I would expect. Iif you have the time and are close enough this would be a good start to get to know the companies, get some info and start to cut down the options. If you go, take a camera to capture the cars and details, the memory can play tricks with al lof that shiney goodness going on.

To be honest they're all fairly different on the outside as well.
If you like the look of the RAM externally you'll like the Southern Roadcraft - it's the same body.
Similarly the first generation Crendon was actually an AK supplied body - not particularly accurate so you'd want the most recent version.
This is my mates old RAM - it looked so "right" for some reason. I think he regrets selling to to this day...

I know of a DAX just gone up for sale that has been made to look very period correct and is running a DART 400ci motor built by Tim Adams and dyno'd at 502bhp and same torque. Guardsman Blue and Wimbledon stripes. Up at £29k
The car is well known and is a beaut - http://www.cobraclub.com/forum/otr-cars-sale/48753...

Yeah 15" rims are correct, but you won't get any kind of decent performance tyre at that size (255/60 15) unless you're gonna splash out on some Avon CR6s (not cheap!). 16 inch brings in a lot of Porsche size performance tyres and still looks good.
If you're going for out and out authenticity that hard top RAM has roadster underslungs but is posing as an SC which should have side pipes. Unless it's was trying to go down the FIA route in which case it's really wrong!

Over 20 years ago I had a passenger ride in a Chevy engined Cobra replica. To this day it remains one of the most memorable experiences I have had. I owned a 911 (930) turbo at the time and this thing made it seem tame. We had car loads of blokes hanging out of the windows and shouting encouragement. I've never seen anything like it since.
Hi. The dax mentioned above is my car. Dave Brooks, the original builder of the car supplies the nicest looking hard tops that you can get for cobra's and these fit the dax perfectly.
I advise anyone looking for a cobra to speak to Dave as what he don't know about cobras ain't worth knowing. Well worth a call regardless of the direction you end up going.
Give me a call if you want any further info re my car or any advice in the cobra scene.
Brian.
