Use of Heath Book

I've got a few niggly things that I need to repair on my '96 griff 500 and I am hearing contradicting stories about the worth of the Heath book.

The jobs that I need to do are:
1. repair the driver's side wing mirror - the glass keeps slipping from the position it is set at (a glue issue me-thinks), and
2. The flaps for allowing air to the footwells, have become dislodged on the passenger side.

Both quite simple to do, but I know what I'm like (a bull in a china shop) and I don't want to end up with a load of bits left over! Will the book show me how or is this a 'suck it'n'see' kind of affair?

That's exactly the sort of thing the book covers. In fact I know it describes how the mirror is assembled in some detail. Not sure about the ventilation problem, but at least it is a starting point.

Yes book is good on wing mirror. Only topic I found slighty less than comprehensive was suspension ajustment. 9.5 / 10 !

If it means you can fix it yourself,and therefore save you atleast 1 hour of labour at your local garage, then the book will have paid for itself

I just bought this and it's great. Not as intuitive as a Haynes manual though - so far anyway, but perhaps that will get easier when I get to know the book.
I bought it from Amazon for just £27.95 incl P&P and it IS the second edition although it doesn't say so in the details.
So god knows what ALAN010647 is doing on E-bay bidding £36.50 with £5 to add for P&P too. Item number: 2491149925

The book is good and well put together IMO. Not quite up to Haynes detail but you do get the odd Steve Heath story thrown in for good measure, sometimes just when he's getting onto the important bit

Personally I find PH the best source for help and advice but I wouldn't be without the bible, it's got loads of good pics too that you have really been of help at times.

Worth the money IMO and worth taking advantage of some of Steve's expertise, he has afterall provided us with a workshop manual for our pride & joys that would otherwise not exist.

i bought a copy of the book and found it good, the only problem is that it has disassembled itself from its binding! which is very annoying
anyone else had the same occurance???

Yes - mine actually fell apart as I took it out of the packaging!! I'm too lazy to send it back though.

Probably need to buy a second edition before I start bemoaning its shortfalls, as I'm sure Steve's covered them all, but since the Griff has such a propensity for electrical gremins, I would welcome a later model wiring diagram.

These spiral binder things are vulnerable to being squashed, maybe they were damaged in transit. I've got several verions of the bible for different models and haven't had any problems.

If its any help, its easy to rebind them if you have access to a spiral binding machine (these are a fairly common bit of office equipment).

The later wiring diagrams doesn't exist so I traced the wiring by hand for a lot of the more interesting bits of the car like the mirror, indicators and injection/ECU system.

The second edition is twice the size of the first and there is no real comparison between the two versions.

Yes mine has come away, pages every were!!
thinking of using a large boot lace, or laminating every page and put it in a binnder like it should ever lasting comes to mind eh?

If you don't find the book much use you can always flog it again on ebay and make a healthy profit. Going rate seems to be £40 compared with the new price of about £34.

The binder was changed about 8 months ago as there was a batch that had problems i.e. the binding was not locking correctly. Constantly looking at new ways of binding BTW.

As for the Ebay comment... Makes me weep when I see some of the prices that they have gone for! The record I think is about £70.
