Top 3 must drive roads in Wales and England and Scotland
Discussion
I don't think we have a top 3 roads any petrol head must drive in each mainland UK country.
For Wales I'd suggest the B road From Bala past Corwen throu Knockin which finally joins a dual carriageway maybe 10 miles from the M54.
It goes right up over the top of the mountains stunning views loads of hairpins off camber corners narrow bridges as well as some open straights where you can really clear the cobwebs away.
Also on the way down te mountain a near vertical drop on one side stunning views (need good breaks and an eye out for sheep leaping into the road).
My best drivers road in Wales very challenging if your "ON IT" or lovely if your out for a cruise.
The next would be the road B again all around Elen Valley utterly stunning location - a challenging drive if your joining no question.
Last place but not really last would be the road From Tremadog to Capel Curig leading onto Waenfawr (around Snowdown basically) very steep narrow and fast if you dare.
I've driven these countless times and really rate them above any other that I have driven on in Wales (if anyone knows of better or a good recommendation would love to know). Note the above I've found in all my time driving them over 17 + years not once have I ever stumbled in BiB

Good roads round there. Can't remember the exact route, but I've been along there in a loaded up car on the way to climbing in tremadogm pretty sure I went along at leasty part of the A4212. Doing it again at the end of the month, except in a loaded transit minibus! The driving is almost as much fun as the climbing tbh!
For England I would've said Buttertubs Pass in the Yorkshire Dales but for the fact it's just a bit too short so I would have to say (from my experience anyway) the A686 from Penrith to Haydon Bridge is sublime. Stunning views, hairpins, fast corners, a lovely little village in the middle, it basically has everything I want in a road.
taking the A66/A686 is one of the two routes back for me from Whitehaven to visit people in the NE, I use it when the weather's good, and it's quite often quicker than taking the A595/A689 around Carlisle, even though it adds a few miles. Went over on Friday, rather nice now that the potholes between Alston and Whitfield have been patched. Shame about the rest of the way from Whitfield to the A69
. Find it gets a little too crowded in the summer, also a right pain when you're having a good run up, and find someone doing 20-25mph gawping at the view - stop at the bloody cafe at the top for that!

I am sure you all watched this programme on BBC4 as it's a repeat - but me and the family returned from Canada not that long ago - it's the first time viewing for me: Richard Wilson in some rather tasty 50s Classics doing what were the "best roads in the 50s!". I have to admit as I watched the Morris "Woody" Traveller trundle over the North York Moors to Whitby that I am now thinking of re-acquainting myself!
