I'm sure this has been asked many time before, but Search isn't working at the momnent.

It's for a 1995 Daimler Double Six

I've done a Gocompare search and Be Wiser comes out cheapest at £300 fully comp. Mileage limit 6000 pa. I have no NCD for this policy, but I am 51 so that helps tongue out

Anyone any other suggestions please?

the comparison sites are more geared around 'usual' modern cars for 'usual' use by 'usual' driver/families so if you, your needs or your car are not the 'usual' you'd probably better to look for a specialist that wants to cover you

also if you just go to the specialist web sites you may not fit into their criteria for a web quote or cover but that doesn't mean they wont cover you - phone them to talk to them not website form, not text - it could get you the policy you want

more can be less, example unlimited mileage for me is the same price as limited mileage, adding a spouse might reduce the premium as might having comprehensive cover instead of third party, fire and theft

if you can get on to 'classic' insurance (not that it really exists there are only different policies) the cover can be much greater and still lower premiums

try Peter James, fill in the boxes at the bottom of the Home page for them to ring you back (office hours only) and you don't even pay for the call - http://www.peterjamesinsurance.co.uk/

When I was last insuring my X300 sum of the details for the model had dropped off the data base the insurance company was using. I had to send them info about the alarm as they weren't sure it was "Thatcham Approved"
I'm not at home at the moment so can't check who I moved too, the lot that used to cover it, and had a deal with the JEC, have been taken over and this years quote was about 3 times as much as last years one. For some reason they seemed surprised I didn't want to renew.
You'll also find the classic car insurance companies will be happy to cover it if you've got another car you use.
When I asked about my X300 a few years ago (might have been about 5 years ago) they wouldn't give me business cover on classic insurance for it, whereas for my XK150 including business cover was free (The underwriters' comment was "that sounds nice, can't say I blame you").

I insure my 1968 Ford Cortina with A Plan who are able to offer agreed values. Simple process and good communication too.

Has my vote.

You only have to buy a magazine to see all the ads for classic car insurance. It also depends on post codes as to the price, but for my Jaguars I have had a very good quote from Adrian Flux and many recommend Peter Best who I used for years until I moved to France. Forget what is recommended here - it is a lottery. Just ring around and you'll work it out.

i've just ditched Lancaster as they insisted on yearly agreed valuations with a proposal form and uptodate pictures for the same car with the same agreed value, despite the fact i told them i'd go to footman james who offered a 3 yr re-valuation arrangment and were cheaper by about 5 quid!
it would have been so much easier to stay with Lancaster and keep the agreed value but having to re-do the forms and photos every 12 months is just a pain, the policy is only circa 165quid so its not like its mega bucks. FJ were very efficient and helpful, and accepted emailed pics

postcodes are only a small part of it, yes it can be a lottery but you can increase your odds by approaching the right sort of insurers for your needs

generally the self assessed agreed values are on cosmetics rather than mechanical condition (show cars rather than go cars)

Peter James is photos and forms every two or three years can't remember which all very easy as electronic form and photos are accepted

Yet my insurers have never asked for photos of my cars - and they have been insuring them for 10 years now. As you say, it isn't just one thing, but a mixture of the lot. And as with all things insurance, the computer might tell them tomorrow that "the percentage of Judypop Mk2 coupés is low so we'll lower the price to get some in", and vice-versa.

possibly because your cars are valued at more than the £10k or £15k self assessment limit Tony wink

Dunno where you got the limit from, but the previous insurer always demanded six photos each year. I'm looking at changing to Adrian Flux at the moment and they don't want them either. Values are strange too - I'm putting the old E-type down in value now the 50th frenzy is behind us but the other has leapt in value according to the last one sold. That's another thing today - valuations. I turned down a Lynx XKSS in 2007 at £80,000 as "too dear" and bought a cheaper long-nosed D instead, which I didn't like and sold on at a very healthy profit a couple of years later to build the C-type. That is now on the market at £300,000 yikes I mean, it's only a replica, but factored into the price is the hope you'll get invited to race at Goodwood I guess. At least though it is an FIA-papered replica, which the XKSS can never be, yet people are literally queueing up to buy them it seems. Strange world we live in.

insurers

below a certain figure certain insurers will allow self-assessment of value by periodically completing a form and sending a number of photos, I know this because I have now, and have had in the past, cars below (well below) these limits wink

Looks like Lancaster are the cheapest, £201.

RK were £282.

Peter James wouldn't insure for more than 3000 miles pa.

Also called Footman James, who couldn't be bothered to answer the phone ...

must be age dependent then as my 1973 Midget is unlimited mileage (for no extra charge) plus loads more benefits

perhaps you'll have wider choice when your cars is 20 years old

bear in mind the insurance cover, prices and policies change every month

glad you're sorted

try to do the 3k miles a year, much less than that and you might as well rent one smile
