I want to upgrade my black steel hood struts to the alloy ones, as on the later 400SE etc. Are these a wedge special or are they the same as fitted to the griffith?
Anyone know or know where I can get some, other than the factory.

Got mine from my local dealer Walderway in Kent, however they are £89.00 EACH. You have to redrill bottom fixing hole, but are easy to fit. Leven ones are for S series only so will not fit Wedges.

My car had these already fitted when i bought it. I believe they are from a Griff and yes, new fixings need to be drilled.

Mine were from a Chimera, and again had to drill lower bolt holes about 1/2 inch below the original

Even from a breakers they were £80 for the pair, but cheaper than dealers !!

I was talking to Bell Hill garage breakers and they have a few but as you mentioned are around £80.

I have also heard that if they were taken from a car with a rear smash they might damage the pivot pin and these are under tension when the roof is up - Might be just hearsay but something to bear in mind.

Might be worth ringing the factory parts department and ask if they have got any 'scratched' ones hanging around they wanna let go cheap?!?

You will also have to drill some extra holes as the struts are a different size.

I was thinking of this upgrade but have other things to worry about with the new car at the moment so please let us know how you get on. Article with pics..hint, hint?.

Thanks for all the replies. Think I will go down the dealer route then. I thought if I phoned the factory parts dept, they would just tell me that all the old model parts are gone! (Do we know where yet?!)

Got mine via internet breakers search. Got a call 15 mins after posting. £80 arrived next day.

The roof struts are from the later Griff and Chimp cars so these would be readily available.

I am sure I hear somebody say that they had a set from the factory at a knockdown price because they had a little scratch on one of the arms.

Give 'em a whirl. Wilst you are on the phone do some snooping around as to the wereabouts of the other Wedge bits.....
