W202 C180 boot release issue

I bought a W202 C180 Sport a few months ago and so far I'm very happy with it. All it's needed so far is a couple of alternator bearings, a prop bearing and I suspect soon an alternator pulley but that's another story.
The only issue I'm not to sure about the cause of is the fact that often the boot release won't work for a good 10-30 seconds of playing around.
I can do it off the key or of the button inside trying engine on/off, ignition on/off etc etc with no luck.
Also every now and then it won't close first time once opened. I've tried adjusting the latch to no avail.
I've tried googling but again no luck!
Anyone had any similar issues or know the likely cause?
